Good day,
Today I am sharing the finished result of my Christmas Amaryllis painting that I started the other day;
Oil on wooden board, size 35 x 30 cm.
Close up;
First session vs. last session.
This was a rather quick painting. It took a couple of days and I think the result is.. okey.. heheh..
The thing is, white flowers are HARD!
Especially in my opinion.. They are so full of color, soft value and temperature shifts but it all still needs to hold together as one form.
If you are a little bit too hard or dark with the values and temperatures, they will make the whole thing look patchy and unreal. But holding back can be hard and I always tend to go too dark with my values and a bit too crazy with my colors so I have to spend a long time ''cleaning up'' my initial mess.. hehe..
That being said, I think painting white flowers is a GREAT exercise for practecing unifying the lightshape and using temperature shifts instead of value to describe form.
One think that was a bit tricky with finishing this painting was the fact that I had to work from a photo to complete the flower on the right. As a photo usually bleaches out a lot of suttle value shifts I felt like it was hard to get a proper understanding of the form in sertain areas..
All in all, it was a good few painting days thou!
So there you have it, the final result! :)
What do you think?
Have you tried painting white flowers yourself? :)
