Collage — Hive

Well since I just shared the apocalypse girl, now might also be a good time to share this collage I made with my wife and mother in-law.

My mother in-law is a huge fan of art and an artist herself. While I like to create a lot of art, I'm not much into hanging or collecting artwork for my own house. For years, my mother in-law was not down with this, so on one visit she took the initiative and forced us to make something to hang on the wall haha.

She went out and bought the canvases, I already had all the other materials needed. We had no idea what we were going to make. We first just laid out the blank canvases in an interesting pattern on the floor. I then took a picture of them and took the measurements of each canvas and recreated that layout in Photoshop.

After that I took family photos, some of my artwork, photography, and random stuff I found online and started cobbling that stuff together in Photoshop on the predefined layout. Then I printed it out in sections and attached all the paper to the canvases with acrylic gesso(I think, it was a while back) Then I painted all the sides of all the canvases with acrylic just by matching the colors by eye. Then finished it off with a clearcoat of something, I forget what, but that gave the whole thing an interesting texture. It was definitely a fun family project.
