Murdering your babies (WIP Painting)

in #art7 years ago

When I was in art school teachers used to always tell me that you can't be afraid to murder your babies. Sometimes babies can get in the way of doing art and they just have to go...I didn't make the rules. (J/K)

No this is a common term in art meaning you can't be afraid to destroy a part of a piece that isn't working. This painting is something I'm currently working on and the whole composition is about to get an extreme makeover, or more like cosmetic surgery since things will get hacked to pieces and hopefully put back together again in a better arrangement, but I digress.

This is where things are now

This is how it got there

At first it was a completely different composition, the main guy in the front didn't exist yet.

So at this point I changed the composition and added this front guy

So now I kinda like the front guy but the other people seem really boring that guy with the sword looks like he's taking a nap

Also the rest of the line is too straight, peeps would be nervous or more ready or pissing their pants or something, gotta try to get some of that in there. Wish me luck, the baby slaughter commences!

Thanks for looking! Hit that upvote button will ya? Geez...j/k, but no seriously, Upvote, comment, reteem, all the cool kids are doing it :D

Go for it! 😉 👏
Looking forward what you do to improve it 😃

I know it's because it's not finished, but I can't get over how it looks there is a giant head floating behind the guy.

Ahh, haha. At first I didn't know what you were talking about. So he's wearing a big furry thing around his neck and obviously it's still super abstract but my brain was already reading it as that, so I was like "floating head...??" I wonder if that's what anyone else sees? O_o

good art and funny hahaha have a nice day follow now

Thanks @angeltirado! I appreciate it :)

your closet is where art dreams go to die.

Alright then...

My lecturers at art school taught us to let go and not be precious about our work, by setting us up with this homework task:
We had to do 50 to 100 very detailed drawings on A4 pieces of paper. We had a week to complete the task. At the end of the week we had to present all our drawing in class...then she made us rip every single drawing up. :( once we had ripped the drawings up, we had to take all the ripped up pieces and create a collage from them. It taught us not to be precious, but also that one can create from amazing artworks from something you think you had destroyed or messed up.

I've done something along those lines before. There's a strange feeling of euphoria when you destroy something precious. Either that or I'm a psychopath deep down @_@

@midlet ;) I'd go with euphoria. Psychopaths are incapable of true emotion and artists need our emotions...learning to let go is amazing though and realizing you can create magic out of nothing is the greatest gift. Keep creating :)

aaaah so cool! it reminds me a bit of Viking and Braveheart at once :D And yeesssssssshhhhh, artists should not be afraid of getting rid of the stuff that isn't working butbutbut i always feel a bit anxious when im doing it XD
