Giveaway! Want to get this figure? Read the rules below and let's have some fun!
I would like to see if this platform is a place where people are interested in objects I craft or its only for cryptocurrency fanatics. If it is a place for me, I would like to power up more and reach new people, you can help me with that, and you can get something tangible from me.
Here are the rules:
- Give this post an upvote to get one chance in the draw.
- Resteem this post to get the second ticket with your name in the hat.
- Comment: upvoted, resteemed or both so I know that you read the rules and it was not an automatic upvote. I don't want to send this little guy to somebody who didn't take few seconds to read the post.
- The draw will only happen if this post reaches Payout min 70 SBD or more in 7 days. If it stays below, the game is canceled, sorry for that.
100% of earnings from the post this will go to my Steem Power, so I can give back more cents with my votes. I will post this figure to any place with registered post and cover the costs. Each vote and resteem will give you the same chance to win, no matter how big or small your influence is. Don't forget to write a comment that you did that (Rule 3).
Short about the figure. It is 3d printed baby Groot from Guardians of the Galaxy 2. I printed him for myself, first thing this year. I DID NOT DESIGN this figure, I found it online on thingiverse.com. It was so cute that I decided to 3d print it and paint. It was 3d sculpted by Byambaa.
I spent few evenings painting it to my best ability. I posted it online on my blog here http://themodelmaker.net/3d-printed-baby-groot/ and it got some attention online, was repinned few thousand of times on Pinterest and brought a nice stream of traffic to my website when the movie was released. I was asked to sell it, but it was too valuable for me at the time. I am ready to part with him now because I need space on shelf for my new creations, he can be yours in just a few clicks. Have fun and good luck! If this post will be a success, there will be more designer toys available for catch in future so stay tuned.
Nice painting skills! :D I love the detailed green "leaves" (I lack a better word. Branch/twig maybe? You get the point. :P) in its torso. Really brings it to life ^^
Neat idea though, Upvoted and resteemed for sure :D
Thanks. It was so much fun to paint him, and I have some experience with other toys I made from scratch, check my other posts if you are interested. Thanks for taking part in this , your name is noted.
Holy Marshmallow waffles!
You really did make so many amazing figurines from scratch!
I must admit, Rocky the champ is my favorite. There's just something special about the caricature of it haha :D Like, the entire body is caricatured, but the hair... My god, the hair is spot on with those curls! haha :D
Amazing work! I'm glad to have found you! :D Can't wait to see more of your work! :D
Edit: you replied to each person's comment in much, much detail, and there aren't few comments. You have my utmost respect, sir. ^.^
Thank you. Yes, so many of them, but I spent years building this portfolio. I did not expect it when I started, I thought I will do architectural models what would be rational after studying architecture but toys and figurines were more fun to make. Rocky was one of the first, when I was not entirely sure if it will work. I gave it try and was satisfied that I did. It is quite a road, and I am still at the begining, so walk with me ;) I have no idea where it leads and thats why I like it !
BTW, on Wednesdays I sculpt naked ladies, will post them when finish to level I can be fairly happy with results ;)
Will definitely stick around to see more of your work :D Stick to what is fun, yes! :D A thousand times yes! :D
(nobody read this comment please) Oh myyy haha :D Can't wait!
Ok. There was no movement in upvotes for last 2 days so i bought myself a goat from minnowbooster for 12.4. It looks like there are very limited chances to get the post visible without pay. Lets see if that helps to get it higher in trending.
voted and resteemed.
Thanks. Your name is on the list. Good luck with the draw
Looks like the post didn't make it to your giveaway goal. Sad... I think baby Groot is sad too.
On a totally unrelated note, I thought I'd tell you I got my sculpey and am starting the chess set today.
Thats great, hope you will see progress quick
Yes, Groot did not reach its goal. Even massive goat I funded half way did not push it high enough in trending for random people to see. Even more than 2k combined followers of people who resteemed me did not make a difference :( I guess bots are the only way.
Oh my gosh, I think this is the cutest statue of baby Groot I've seen so far! I've been looking around for a good one, but most don't really have the eyes correct, so they aren't as cute as the movie. I think this one comes close :D
When I saw the second movie in the theater for the first time, baby Groot's first scene had me smiling like a maniak! Seeing as I couldn't find a good statue, I went for a shirt instead.
Anyways, that's a nice thing you're doing here! I wonder very much if you'll manage to reach the 70 SBD (most posts just get drowned in the huge amounts), but a nice idea nonetheless :-)
Good luck!
Thank you for your kind words. Yes, this was one of the best figures I saw online. It is the perfect design for 3d printing. I wanted to paint it well, I hope I did. It went like crazy on Pinterest, so I think people liked it. I was interested with this character after first movie. I even spent some time building animatronic version of dancing Groot, but failed because head was too heavy and never finished this figure :(
Yes, 70 is steap, but I wonder how many people read the posts and resteems. I want to believe, something can be seen without spending SBD on minnowbooster.
I never really like the big Groot particularly much. I was kind of indifferent about him. Still am to be honest... but baby Groot... Oh my gosh he's the cutest thing ever! I fell in love with him when I saw him dance :D
I do really hope your post gets seen by many eyes. I have given up hope for mine. There's a few loyal readers/commentors and maybe an upvote bot or two, but I hardly ever get much more attention on any post. There's just too many and not enough ways to filter down to what we want to see.
Yes. I could not understand why people were so into big groot. He was so dumb. I preferred Rocket. Dance saved this character.
I hope it will be seen. I always boost with bots to trending, maybe will use randowhale on this one. I also used steemfollower what brought number of small votes but no views on post. I have doubts if this place is worth my time. Since I started this game my productivity dropped. It was going to help but so far only costs me.
Yeah, the thing about Steemit is that most people shouldn't do it for the money. There are only a few who really make good bucks here with their writing, but most earnings are either mediocre or hardly even existant. I don't earn a lot from my blogs, but I write them because I enjoy it. I was writing a food and gaming blog anyway, for free on Wordpress. Here on Steemit, I atleast earn a bit (and I have more readers, even though still not a lot).
To be honest, I was attracted by the possibility of earning here and go back to the beginning of my creative side of my days and weekends, when I was experimenting and working on my own projects for learning new skill, for pleasure or contests and exhibitions. If that could pay some of the bills, I could make less commissioned pieces or rely on sales. I guess it is only for selected few, but will find my way ;)
Well, if you enjoy sharing your experiences, your work, your projects, etc. I think you should definitely do that here. Even if you won't earn hundreds on your posts, you'll still earn a bit and you'll have a few good days now and then. Eventually it might add up. I don't think I ever got a reward in triple digits, but I still managed to earn quite a bit of rewards here eventually. More than I would have on Wordpress, that's for sure :-)
upvoted. Resteem'dddd for da powa. Sa ateem powa. Keep up the good work!
Thank you. I will, never stop! Putting your name on the list. Thanks for taking part in this.
Resteemed & up vote! This guy is so cute! Nice work.
Thanks you far taking part in this contest. Saved your nickname. Good luck with the draw
Upvote and Resteem. I want this, so hopefully you hit the $70 mark.
Thank you. I hope so too. That would also boost my belief in the platform. Your name is saved, good luck!
Voted and resteemed.
Love this character, great little statue of him.
Thank you. It looks great in person too. The designer did amazing job. Thank you for participating in my little contest. Wish you luck in draw.
Hey Mitchhunter, great post but don't count me in the draw. Not that I don't love the figure, just that I really couldn't give him the appreciation he so obviously deserves.
ok. Thank you for your upvote. If you change your mind, comment again. See you soon on the next meetup.
Reblogging, but don't count it as an entry. Same with @steem-dublin.
Thank you. Are you sure? If you change mind, let me know here.
What a great way to draw attention to your work.
Count me into the draw, upvoted and resteemed.
Will also follow you to watch your progress.
Thank you. I try things here, bots, steemfollower, they bring votes but limited results. Finally, I can see some real human interaction :) Your name is saved on my list, thanks for taking part in my little raffle. If people enjoy it, there will be more.
I am all for Human reaction, personally, if you can't be bothered to read something, how can you vote for it?
I am guilty of that too :(, but if this is the only way in this system, I need to know so I can change the strategy and be more efficient in it. So far, this post gives me positive feeling. Not yet going to dark side
Great idea for this post. Upvoted and resteemed. I know my son would love to eat the little Groot so probably better take me out of the running. Hope he goes to a good home. Good luck with the post.
Thanks! Are you sure? He will quickly grow up, you can give it to him with vintage DVD when he is 18. I will be probably killed by then by all toxic dust from sanding plastic I am breathing, maybe it will appreciate in value ;)
Thanks, but I think he is the sort of child who will never grow up. Especially if he's like his father. The Groot does look quite tasty by the way.:-). Do you print ABS or PLA?
I use PLA most of the time, should be less poisonous, but the ABS is so much easier to sand and cut.
From my understanding ABS woud be easier to get smooth if you use a vapour chamber. Not sure if you are familiar with 'Makers muse" on the youtubes. I think he showed how to make one.
Or maybe it was Diy perks
Lol, great response.
Yeah, my wife definitely wants that...
Upvoted and resteemed!
I hope this works, because we also like to make stuff.
Brilliant! Thank you. I hope it will work. It started looking promissing. I wish you good luck and dont stop making! ;)
Beautiful work mitchhunter! Voted and resteemed.
Thank you. Putting your name in the hat.
Upvoted and resteemed for sure. You know I'm a fan of your work, so I'd love to have a piece for myself... and a bonus that it's baby Groot. I understand you didn't model him, but the paint job is fantastic!
I'm also very curious to see how well this giveaway goes. I have plans for a unique chess set that I would share the sculpting process of on Steemit, then make a very very limited number (like 4) hydrostone molds available exclusively through steemit. Your results on this giveaway could be a good indicator if my idea would have some traction as well.
Thanks! Happy to see you took part too, you are one of the very few people who react to my posts. I am curious how will this experiment work. If yes, I will be happy to create exclusive sculpt only available on Steemit. I just helped with randowhale, but that's all for bots on this post. I hope it will get some traction thanks to resteems. If free prize and resteems from real people can't earn fairly small amount, then, I don't believe that quality posts make a difference for users other than early adopters with whale friends.
Waiting for your series about sculpting and the results of your work. I hope you will be rewarded for the effort.
We'll see! My Sculpey order arrives on Wednesday. I'll have to play around and brush the dust off my skills before I get started on the main project, but that shouldn't take long. I look forward to diving into molds; that will be a new experience for me. I got the idea while browsing DeviantArt. The artist sold some copies through DeviantArt, so I thought I'd see how something like that would fare on Steemit. I'll be making a post of future ideas that I'll be publishing here, and that's one of them. The idea is the series of sculpting posts would build attention for the project, then by the time it's finished there will be some people awaiting the post sharing the final product. Then, depending on how much attention and interest there is, I'll find a method to offer it for sale (or auction?) and buy with Steem, or maybe open it up to paying with other cryptos too? If you can't tell, it's still very much in the conceptual phase. :)
Like you mentioned, I also have a small handful of real people that consistently comment on my posts. I've gotten kind comments saying I post great content, but trying to piece together why some fall flat and others get a big boost from bots, etc, etc... Yeah, it's confusing. I understand you wanting to get some results to see if Steemit is worth your time, especially if you feel you're putting more in than is benefiting you. For myself, I've enjoyed the few connections I've made so far in the community being a fairly new user, and it's giving me an excuse to do the creative things I enjoy that I otherwise might not devote as much time into. Making some crypto (however minor) is a nice little incentive, but putting all this together I've decided to give Steemit my efforts for the long-term. I haven't pulled the trigger yet on investing real USD into Steem Power though. I'm hoping there'll be more info on the future development and support of this platform after Steemfest2 that will give some confidence to buy Steem Power.
I just lost my long reply because of Steemit crashed, I pressed post comment, something was loading for a long while and didn't submit. I hope improvement will be on on the agenda during the SteemFest not only drinking and formation of secret Steem societies :)
Good to know you already ordered the material, that means you are committed to the project. Just start it as soon as you can and start posting. It is great strategy to get some attention and also will keep you accountable, you will have to finish when others are looking. That is psychological trick :) And yes, it should be possible to sell your work here. I didn't experience it yet, but had at least one request for work through every social media channel. Currently working on prototype of the toy for the guy who found me on Behance, even if I just started profile there with 2 photos and never finished updating it :)
This post starts looking promissing. It is probably record of vews for me without number of votes from steemfollower. Will give it a chance. So far put 300euro into Steem at high rate. Planned to wait until 10usd anyways. It is another long term investment, like every failed short term investment I made so far :)
Yeah, the recent stability issues on Steemit.com have been going on too long. I resteemed a post by a witness I follow about this issue and it sounds like it's high on his agenda to bring this up at SteemFest2; he'll be attending. It is discouraging that posts are taking a long time to go through and sometimes getting lost, but I'm holding out in the hopes things will be resolved after SteemFest2. Guess we'll see.
I'm hoping this post makes it too, because I'd love for you to stay with the community here and ... well... I want to win! haha. I threw a little SBD at a booster to help bring it along more than my upvote can.
I started using busy.org today because of that but still would like them to work on the issues.
I saw your goat ;) thanks for that. It probably pushed it higher in trending. Will see if this still works. Going to bed. I wish I could see target reached in the morning ;) good luck with the draw!
I am want!
Upvoted and resteemed, good luck with running the contest!
Ok, I sign you in. Thanks for taking part.
I took the time to read it bit i had a better time looking at the details you did to baby groot ... u def have my upvote and resteemed. Im also following u.
Thank you. I appreciate it and I wish you luck in the raffle. I hope I will be able to post more interesting posts so you wont be dissapointed.
Ill be watching lol ...
Both!
That little guy is SUUUUUUPER cute!
I've toyed with sending ACTUAL prizes to people rather than giving away SBD. I feel I need about 1000 more followers before that will work for me.😏
I hope you get seen by a whale🐳 (or two) that pumps this up. It's a great idea!
Yes he is! :) I guess you are right with the 1000. I was getting unpatient and had to try. If it doesnt work, i will revisit this idea in future but I wish it works, so many great people helped so far, i don't want to dissapoint you guys.
We won't be disappointed (well, as long as we are wearing our adult panties 😉 ).
I got inpatient too, which is why I attempted a contest with less than 300 followers. 😏
I just wanna play games and give/get prizes! Is that so bad? 😃
I came to Steemit with no following from other social media, so my growth has been steady and organic, which is good.
From what I can tell, those making substantial payouts have A LOT of followers.
I'm not giving up and neither should you. Worst case, little Groot stays with you a little longer and you try again later.
But you still have most of the week to hit your goal!
Yes, I will see how it ill look in few days. I didn't yet promote this website on my other social media channels, still in testing phase. I don't want to sell my fans something what does not work.
Interesting... Well, it's been working (VERY WELL) for many folks for over a year.... and Zappl (the Twitter version) just hit beta today. A year is a LONG time in the current climate of 'everything changing'.
I understand wanting to wait... I'm trying to stop doing that. Seems most people that succeed in things, just jump in and are rewarded.
I watched it (Steemit) for about a month before even joining, but now I see that that was just about the dumbest thing I could have done. LOL!
Good ol' hindsight.
Hope you stick it out... at least for a chance at your sweet prizes. 😉
I will stay but just lower my expectations to be happy. I jumped in the same day i discovered it on youtube.:) I wish it was 6 months earlier.
Yay! It's okay to start slow. My expectations were HUGE. But as just a normal person that no one really knows, it's more realistic for me to build steadily, rather than suddenly.
I'm still hoping for a huge alt coin SPIKE in the the next month... I have no reason to think that, other than hope, though. 😂
I will gladly give you an upvote, this is nice work and a nice contest
although if you do not get a whale upvote that 70 will be out of reach but here is my 3 cents
Yes, its harder than I thought to get attenction of the whales. Thanks for your upvote
I got lucky a few times but I still have no idea what caused them to vote for those posts, all I know that most of my earnings so far have come from 3 votes but once you hit a certain amount it seems to go easier

This Groot fella was my favorite character in the Guardian of the Galaxy film.
I have resteemed and upvoted your post. Very clever and cool of you to make that figure available to us. If I am fortunate enough to win, I am going to give it to my youngest grand nephew.
Good! Happy to hear that. I think he would be happy but must warn that it is delicate thing. Can easily be broken and pieces like fingeres swallowed. Its not a toy to play, more a display piece. Sorry to be kill joy. :)
You were one of the first craftsman/creator/artists that found on Steemit, but I am not sure that it is always easy to discover new people with all the bots and issues with the platform that people have been complaining about. I hope that you won't be discouraged if you don't hit your goal the first time because I know that there are plenty of people who will be interested in your creations, just as the many people who are doing original artworks and photography.
3-D printed, painted - OK. But how did you make so real eyes for him?
I used 2 parts epoxy. It comes in double syringe with 2 fluids. You mix small amount of both and apply to eye with small brysh or stick and after few hours its hard and nice and shiny.
