My winter clause collection.

Hello, HIVE.

Theme of my winter clause collection

2019-2020 contrasting white. The collection consists of three images made from different shades of white and different fabric textures. The collection conveys feminine sexuality and sporty style, the combination of which gives the clothes a trendy look. I also linked it to the theme of death, death is the opposite meaning of white.

Contrast, cold, death, texture, streetstyle

When the first time I got the name clause work, I thought what these words would mean to me. I did not want to connect my work with tenderness or joy. Contrasting white, these two words can be distinguished in different ways. Let's first find out the meaning of the words contrasting. Contrast means constituent contrast, the exact opposite, Contrasting colors. I also understand the word contrast, as a difference in the texture of the fabric, if you apply the word contrast to clothing. The meaning of white is purity, innocence, life. White affects the functions of the visual and endocrine systems. White clothing affects the skin - makes it softer and softer. Under the influence of white in a person, the pupils narrow, the sensations, including pain, intensify. The choice of white color in clothes, in the process of creativity, in an art therapy session, or in a color test can tell about the difficulties and problems of the person. Often the white color speaks of feelings of isolation, boredom, frustration, detachment, the desire to avoid strong feelings. I liked the opposite side of the white color. I compared the white color with death, mourning, as the ancient Slavs did, and even Queen Mary Stuart wore a white dress for her husband’s funeral.

The creation of this collection was inspired by the general perception of people of death, those people lived several centuries ago or will live in 100 years, in general terms, I can name the factors that are the connecting factors in understanding mourning and death. Often young people relate to this topic more loyally, they interpret it in contemporary art, such as music, graffiti, literature.

Speaking about understanding the problems of death and the meaning of life among modern young people, two points should be kept in mind:

Firstly, what social psychologists call a “confrontation with death” or “an awakening experience” is most often associated with the following events: grief at the loss of one’s neighbor, an incurable disease, breakdown of intimate or romantic (love) connections, personal tragedy, loss of work and forced change of professional activity, the phenomenon of the “empty nest”, unexpected loneliness, retirement, separation from loved ones.

Secondly, any significant event related to the “awakening experience” transfers a person’s life from everyday to ontological mode (M. Heidegger). This transition to the ontological mode of existence reduces the importance of wealth, prestige, external human data and other non-essential moments.

It is believed that, starting from the twentieth century, the attitude towards life and death was deformed and a tendency appeared to displace death from the collective consciousness.

In this case, both positive ideas about death (death as deliverance, sleep, reunion with loved ones, rebirth, a request for forgiveness, a sacrifice in the name of love, etc.) and negative ones (separation from loved ones, loss of peace, trauma and punishment) are possible. . And although the generally accepted opinion is that religiosity contributes to the establishment of a positive idea of death, believers, according to research, are more afraid of death than unbelievers, and the fear of death intensifies if religiosity turns out to be external - rituals without true faith are observed.

It is also fashionable to use the theme of death in street fashion. This is amazing when all the factors of art merge into one image. I am particularly attracted to Asian street fashion, where the combination of classic things looks amazing with a sporty style.

There are several shades of white in my collection. White milky and snowy white. The combination of such close, but such distant shades creates an additional visible contrast. Thanks to this, you can immediately get to the topic of my collection. These two shades are in different thermal zones. Milky white is warm when snowy white is cold. All things from my collection can be combined with each other. So you can make a purely warm or cold look.

Why did I choose the feminine straight silhouette in this work? Often, the image of death is associated with a beautiful girl, for me the prototype was Everett Millet's picture of Ophelia. The image of a young and innocent virgin, therefore white, experiencing fear, detachment and anxiety. Youth and beauty, so valued in our society, but so fleeting.

There is one special thing in this collection that I treasure. This is a white mini skirt with patch pockets, which consists of 80% recycled fabric. I found material for the implementation of my idea on the open spaces of the well-known second-hand in Usti over a lab located on Granichar. The texture of this fabric repeats the texture of my leading fabric collection, namely the cotton that I used to create pants and skirts. I believe that we should use more recycling, as mindless consumerism is hopelessly outdated. Looking at my collection, one can hardly find the exact fabric that I used to cut already worn jeans.

First I needed to find fabrics. I like to combine fabrics with different textures, dense and thin, smooth and rough.

For sewing this collection I needed an overlock. I worked through all the internal seams with them so that the product looked good both outside and inside. Sweatshirts, which are made of a stretching tulle, are completely sewn with an overwork seam.

One of the main rules of careful sewing is ironing all the seams so that they are even and securely hidden.

I also worked on the outer seams on all skirts and trousers. Visible seams in parallel follow the main seams.

To combine the collection, I added patch pockets to the skirt from secondary material. I placed pockets on one side only, front and back, this emphasizes the asymmetric mood of the collection.

Side and front cuts in a long skirt serve not only as a decorating function, but also as a practical one. Thanks to them, it becomes easy to move in a straight skirt made of thick fabric.
