WASHINGTON - The United States (US) is planning to test the THAAD defense missile system prepared to intercept any North Korean missiles. The advanced weapons test will be conducted at the Pacific-Alaska Spaceport Complex next week.
Preparation of missile system test for High Altitude Area Defense Terminal (THAAD) delivered by Coast Guard or Coast Guard Force.
Earlier this month, the US Missile Defense Agency (MDA) successfully tested THAAD missile systems from Kodiak Island. The weapon has been set up by Washington in Seoul to protect its ally South Korea from the threat of a North Korean missile strike.
"The MDA, in a trial stated that the validated THAAD capability to intercept mid-range ballistic missiles, managed to launch directly on Kodiak Island earlier this month," MDA Public Affairs Director Chris Johnson told ABCNews on Monday (24/7 / 2017).
"The previous test saw the launch of two interceptors from two launchers simultaneously," Johnson continued. "The first missile involved the target. The second intercept was launched to test operational procedures. "
According to other MDA officials, the THAAD capability test is important after North Korea claims to successfully test the Hwasong-14 missile in the Earth's atmosphere last month. Hwasong-14 is categorized as a medium-range ballistic missile.
The US missile defense system offers state-of-the-art radar technology considered a threat to Russia and China. Both countries have repeatedly opposed the deployment of THAAD missile systems in Seoul.
