On my lunch break today I thought I would go and do something useful, instead of just stuffing my face with munchies at my desk. So in the hour I had I decided to go and find Glasgow's world renowned graffiti installations.
These aren't your standard chicken scratch scrawl that you see plastered on the local bus stop, you know the type, "Cassie loves Simon 4 Eva xxx." These are created by world class artists and are a fantastic way to bring a bit of colour and intrigue to otherwise drab buildings.
I often pass a couple of them on the cycle in, but I knew of several others dotted around the city. It is known as the Glasgow Mural trail and it is very popular with the tourists. To be honest I felt like a tourist in my own city cycling around taking pictures.
I got on my bike and peddled as fast as I could to capture as many as possible. In each photo I placed my bike to let you appreciate the sheer scale of these pieces.
Hope you enjoy them as much as I did. There are a few that I missed, so if you guys like them I will go and locate the rest. My favourite is the Tiger how about yours?
Growling Tiger
Created by artist James Klinge this piece resides on the banks of the River Clyde. This fearsome creature often stares at me on my cycle to work.
Banksy Taxi
This Banksy inspired taxi was created by Rogueone, it totally reminds me of the film Up, fighting to hold back the tears.
Badminton
This mural by Guido van Helten was commissioned for the 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games and depicts Scottish badminton player Kieran Merrilees.
The Scottish Wilderness
On the gable end wall of the Scottish Music Centre on Ingram Street lies this fabulous masterpiece, it is absolutely enormous and impressive to boot, painted by Smug
The Swimmers
Another piece by Smug this seriously brightens up that monochromatic mess they call the Kingston Bridge.
The B.F.G
This colossal lady is trying to steal my bike, I am sure of it.
Argyle Street Restaurant
Smug has done it again by providing the shoppers with a fantastic view instead of an abandoned shop front.
Spaceman
"Spaceman I always wanted you to go into space man intergalactic Christ." This piece by Recoat and Ali Wyllie is completely out of this world, and is only spoilt by the smell of piss that always seems to emanate from this alleyway.
The Clutha Bar
The Clutha Bar mural depicts the many famous faces that have been associated with the venue. This was created after the tragic accident on the 29th of November 2013, when a police helicopter crashed into the roof of the bar and claimed the lives of 10 people.
Old Billy
This piece created by Jack Vettriano was commissioned to celebrate Billy Connolly's 75th birthday.
Not sure who this last guy was but he was creating this fantastic 3D image of Moai from Easter Island with a traffic cone on his head.
