I can't see "Cthulhu" in a post's title and pass it by... and I am glad I saw yours! That scene in the swamps, with cultists worshiping a strange idol was one of the most important ones in the novel.
You did justice to it, depicting it in a such a way that all the sense of dread is captured properly. The way the statue is lit from the bonfire, and how it seems to stare beyond reality, is disturbing and very true to the spirit of Lovecraft's text.

That is a nice challenge, then! Try to paint something relevant to that scene, with Cthulhu rising from his tomb amidst the broken ancient ruins, his wings casting a dreadful shadow and bringing madness upon those poor sailors!
