Hello everyone!
In February a dear friend sent me a surprise gift of colored pencils. I have always been a stick figure doodler, but this inspired me to learn how to draw things that I'd be proud of enough to color. I've always thought there were people who can draw and people who can't. But with practice, I am seeing that there IS improvement and its something that definitely can be learned! I am loving every step of this journey and wanted to share with you my art improvement thus far for the past 5 months.
February 13, 2017
To start off my journey, I made a doodle comic to express the feelings one encounters when attempting to draw
The first one was done in February, the 2nd in March (copied from a how to draw book found at the library and the dragon seems to have gained quite a bit of weight :P)
March / April
Learned about the grid method and attempted to draw a guy playing a guitar. I like how the faraway hand looks, but the one closer to the viewer looks stumpy and the thumb is not a part of the hand? So much to learn!
Followed a Mark Crilley tutorial on how to draw a dragon's head and to learn more about shading. Couldn't resist drawing a doodle of someone running away, but it looks like they are farting in terror :P
May / June
1st attempt at a realistic ear! (also added Navi. Can't resist adding little doodles to the serious study drawings, gotta insert my personality in there somewhere!)
Spent May & June learning how to draw what you see, not what you think you see. Practicing with human features helped immensely with this process and there's still a long way to go!
Digital art is amazing, and I'd love to become a real digital artist one day. I painted this galaxy with Photoshop and attempted a silhouette of an acrobat.
And this is where I am today. The left drawing was one of my first attempts at drawing. The 2nd was yesterday. I'm not quite sure how to draw the other eye, or how to shade a dog's nose and draw / shade fur in general, so am going to keep working at it!
