Artist Of The Day - Glen Scouller

in #art7 years ago

In this series I'm featuring artists who were showcased in a large lot of gallery exhibition catalogues and art books we obtained at an auction. Some of these artists are absolutely amazing, but the work of others doesn't appeal so much to me. The wonderful thing about art is there is something for everyone!

Glen Scouller is a Scottish Colourist, which means his paintings are defined by their both vivid and subtle use of colour. He was born in 1950 and is currently living in Ayrshire, Scotland. Scouller's talent left him no alternative but to become a career artist. As soon as his schooling was complete he went to study at the Glasgow School of Art from 1968-1973. He has won numerous awards during his career, both for his oil and watercolour paintings. His works have been exhibited many times, and his art can be found in the collections of the South African government, The Scottish government, The Royal Bank of Scotland and De Beers.

Scouller paints still lifes, people and landscapes. For the landscapes, he paints en plein air (outdoors!) and then completes the paintings in the studio.Because some of his paintings were painted in South Africa, I can see how remarkable his use of colour really is. His capture of the midday sunshine in Prince Albert is especially remarkable.

A high value painting, thank you for sharing

My art education must be poor as I have never heard of this artist. However, his use of colour and light is brilliant. Thanks for the education - I shall keep an eye out for more of his work.

It's a pleasure, thanks for the reply.

nice portrayed. thanks for sharing.

I like the beach boat the best!
I wish I could draw and paint. One day I will take some lessons to see if I could do this!

I think anyone can, you just need to find your own style.

I like that last one! Makes me think of that scene in Mary Poppins when the old lady is feeding the birds.
