Dorian's CD collection
Today, I'm sharing with you my illustration 'CDs', a drawing created for Chapter Fifteen of Doug Karr's amazing novel Dwelling. The image is inspired by the character Dorian's CD collection.
Out the window a satellite dish was the only thing still lit by the sun, the rest of the buildings were pastels of gray and tan. Soft rock played on the stereo. Dorian sat propped up by pillows on the couch, semi-conscious. Rube still sat at the table. Deuce browsed Dorian's CDs, lazy eyed.

The process of creating 'CDs'
Firstly, I used a selection of black drawing inks to create marks by dripping, transferring and smearing the inks across the white paper. Next, I added the lines and details using a dip pen and drawing ink. The final stage involved using lettering stamps and inks to apply the text to the piece.
"This music is terrible, man. What is this Coldplay?" Deuce said.
"Elton John. Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy..."

Rube didn't disagree, motioning to the stack of CDs in Deuce's hand, "Yeah, put on Honky Chateau... you got that one?" Rube garbled, "...It's a way better album..."

I love ink drawings - I think I will buy myself some fine paper and start making some analogue art again. Thanks for the inspiration :)
Yes, I enjoy creating digital drawings too, but I also love my dip pen and drawing inks.
Sometimes you just get into something and it becomes routine. I think I will try one of these challenges the young people use. I will have to think about it, but maybe an ink-drawing a day?
