Blue Hydrangeas
The french gîte we are currently staying in has beautiful blue hydrangeas in its garden, I have noticed hydrangeas growing all around the Brittany region in a variety of wonderful colours.
After a cup of coffee I spent the afternoon painting these lovely blue flowers. There seemed to be a range of blue and purple hues across the plants, even different colours on the same flower head.

How long does it take to make a work like this?)
To be honest I lose track of time and make it in stages (waiting for paint layers to dry) so I couldn't say for sure.
From the first sight it looks simple. But when i look closely they change to blue pearls.
Even though i like drawings with details - i keep observing your painting a lot.

What kind of watercolor do you use?
I have a few makes I use, this picture is done in Koh-I-Noor watercolours.
Very nice artwork. We used to have pink hydrangeas. I was told we could make them turn blue by treating the soil, but I never tried.
Oh yes, you can change the colours.
Ooh your blue hydrangeas are so sweet ! I have blue ones in my garden that over time are colored pink, which give flowers going from blue to pink passing by very nice tones of mauve ! ^_^ But blue hydrangeas are very typical to Brittany, that's why I love them so much, as I adore Brittany ;-)

The ones at our home in the UK are pink and white, I have planted blue but they always change to pink.
Yes they need a specific care to maintain the blue : make regular intake of alum, and every year a supply of heather soil that will maintain the acidity of the soil. @opheliafu ^_^

Have they stayed the original colour?
Not really. It is pinker, related with the PH value of the soil. But I didn't do the soil test.
This type of flower is beautiful. I have a garden of hydrangeas. In my country the translation of the name is "hortensias".
