So my mom's boyfriend has started his second standing bear carving. I'm excited to see it come to life. This is my favorite of his carvings and hes only made the one so far, which was his very first ever.
Here's the rough outline...stage one.

About 3ft tall
So he does those with just chainsaw?
To this stage for sure. At the very end, he'll do a few things like the eyes or snout with a sander to dremell to get them smooth, but otherwise all details and everything else is chainsaw only.
As someone who can't draw a stickman that shit impresses the hell out of me
