"In the spring of 1999, the Family Learning Channel commissioned animator Don Hertzfeldt to produce promotional segments for their network.
The cartoons were completed in five weeks.
The Family Learning Channel rejected all of them upon review, and they were never aired..."
Don't let the apparent visual simplicity of the following film fool you - this is wild stuff!
Another Academy Award nominee, I must have seen this film dozens of times by now and for good reason. In fact I'm going to watch it again as soon as I press Post. I'm a big fan.
At first glance it's a hilarious string of jokes, buy it has some absolutely wonderful and increasingly absurd segments in it that show great mastery of the craft, especially when the film progresses.
The more-than-a-year-long production process was allegedly a tough one, with the film behind schedule and going through substantial revisions. Perfection doesn't come easy.
It was all more than worth it. I simply love this film. I hope you do, too.
Another case of casting pearls before swine...
Cheers! from @thedamus
