Tian Tan Buddha, also known as Big Buddha, is a large bronze statue, completed in 1993, and is located in Ngong Ping, Lantau Island, in Hong Kong. The statue is located near the Po Lin Monastery and symbolizes the harmonious relationship between man and nature, society and religion. This place is a major center of Buddhist activity in Hong Kong, and is also a popular tourist attraction.***

Tian Tan Buddha was built early 1990, and completed on 29 December 1993, coinciding with the enlightenment day of Buddha Gautama, the founder of Buddhism. The statue is made up of 202 separate bronze parts. In addition to exterior components, there is a strong steel frame inside the statue to support heavy loads. When the statue is finished, monks from around the world are invited to the opening ceremony. Tourists from mainland China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, India, Japan, Korea, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Sri Lanka and the United States all took part in the process
