(I tried to post this on dtube, but it's not cooperating atm, so I will upload the progress video later.)
I decided to enter the Slothicorn visionary art contest.
Here I made a weird alien gila monster tree with tentacles.
a Xenoflora?
Here is the final piece:
I started with some pencil sketches of Gila Monster blossoms.
I scanned them and rendered a bit in greyscale. Then I painted over the top with some color layers to bring them to life. After that I started painting a tree using some of the wackiest brushes I have.
I feel like they gave it a pretty alien feel. I was basically aiming for a palm tree but it turned into a tentacle tree.
So after that I stuck a gradient in the background, tweaked some values and came in with some smaller details, while adding a confused astronaut to the piece.
What would you do if you were lost in space and you happened upon a tree that grew venomous lizards?
Thanks to @elohprojects and @slothicorn for putting on this fun contest!
and congratulations to all the other artists for making something!
ahhhh!!! I dont think you could run from that, it would be time to make peace or hope that I have a jet pack on me back! Love this, this is my cup of tea to look at :) great job
Actually, on a planet with low gravity and a thin atmosphere, gila monsters are able to run faster and project themselves long distances through the air, so a jet pack would be of little use. :)
no hope then! Lost this choose my own adventure

How do you came up with this idea to draw a bundle of lizards like a berry?
Very cool digital art rendering. Thanks for sharing your process.
