“A Dead Whale’s Wakeup Call” (A MESSAGE TO ASEAN MEMBER STATES )

The following pictures shown are the images of a creative Exhibit that gives a meaningful message about Plastic Pollution. This is found in Seaside Beach Resort at Naic, Cavite, Philippines. The exhibit utilized large numbers of any non-biodegradable plastics to form a huge structure of a dead whale depicting that it has died due to Plastic Pollution.

This form of art represents that the underwater life is at risk of getting eradicated due to the accumulating plastic wastes in the ocean.

“The Ocean is already comprising with 275 million tons of plastics!” (ASEAN, ACT TO PROTECT THE OCEANS FROM PLASTIC AND MARINE DEBRIS”, 2017)

The amount of plastics getting dumped by mankind went on appalling quantity to the point where the ocean is no longer a conducive habitat for marine wildlife. It has been researched and estimated that this Plastic Pollution will outweigh and outnumber the fishes in the ocean by 2050. It is very alarming already because some of the coral reefs are also found destroyed by the chemicals spreading in the different bodies of water.

There is no doubt at all why many large fishes are found dead on seashores in countries like Philippines and other Asian countries. Despite of the rumors that the death of large fishes was associated with disturbed volcanic activity from the inner core of the ocean floor, pollution was probably the main cause. Some people are even at high risk of food poisoning due to taking advantage of dead fishes and utilizing them for food consumption.

According to the 2015 study conducted, there are five ASEAN member states that have been the top sources of Plastic Pollution in the ocean due to manufacturing industry of plastic and chemical products. These countries are namely: Philippines, Vietnam, Thailand, Indonesia and Malaysia.

I guess this is the right time to call the attention of these ASEAN states as well as the other members of such organization to formulate plans and measures to stop Plastic Pollution in the world’s oceans in order to preserve and save the destruction of marine life and the environment itself.

It is important for these ASEAN states to work and collaborate hand in hand together to implement agreed regulations to intervene in this issue.

"Let us work hand in hand to save Mother Earth."
