This piece is from my first series, back in 2013. Humanimals. I had people tell me which animal they wanted me to fuse them with, and I painted their portraits as that animal. I sold a few back then, and many of them sat in my collection for years. Some have since been painted over entirely.
This one was finally requested by the mother of the model, but I couldn't let it go without feeling it was the best it could be given my development in technical skill over the years.
Unfortunately, I couldn't find the original reference material I'd used, so I didn't want to mess with her face too much. Angles and lighting can really make a person look like someone else, especially if you combine them. Instead, I focused on a little bit of colour correction, a few highlights on the skin, and detail sharpening in the rest of the piece.
She looks a lot darker in the updated version, but that's just camera lighting.
I got the thumbs up, just have to keep this baby off my social media so the recipient doesn't find out until gift-day.
I've also been quiet online because I've been working on some commissions for the past little while. They're so close to being finished, I will hopefully have another post to make soon.
