I haven't named it yet... Probably I'll open up a forum for suggestion on that. It's better for sales, to involve people in the naming process. Just a little tip to fellow artists on what I've discovered works for me.
There's much yet to do. I've focused my energies so far on the main main subject, the wee hippo. The cup and saucer are starting to look like something, but they're very messy as yet. So is the peanut butter toast. The floor, I've barely touched. I'm going for that kitsch brown linoleum from the 70's/early 80's, but I will lighten it up. The overall piece is quite dark right now, which is harder to sell, I find, because people find them a bit harder to place in their homes. Of course, I'm speaking of averages. I have many lighter paintings still waiting for a forever home.
Canadian heritage. I think this was a high. Most people I know still want a house hippo. We don't have hippos here, except in zoos, so the reality that hippos are one of the deadlier animals on the planet escapes us. Pretty sure though, if there were house hippos, they'd only really be able to mash fingers a bit. Too small for goring.
On that note, I'll probably be getting a bit more political soon. We have a provincial election coming up in a couple months, and the party I dislike the most has a particularly egregious leader, who intends to halt sexual education, table the subject of women's reproductive rights again, and repeal rent control, which is already a massive issue in Toronto. If it becomes the wild west here again, we might be forced out of our home, and we can't afford to move. The most terrifying thing, is that while I've been very cheerily able to unfollow the people whose ideologies irritate me, they've decided as a majority that this is the guy they want to vote for.
To be clear, they are not the majority. They're just the most organized pod of people, and this social media echo chamber we've been creating for ourselves has created a false comfort for the actual majority of people, who are sane. We don't see them rising. We're too busy agreeing with each other.
