Made with Photoshop and a drawing tablet
What you're looking at now is some kind of abomination that I’m somewhat working on. I made it yesterday when I decided to mess around with drawing for a couple of hours. It looks absolutely messed up, but I like it—because that's the point.
The thing is, I've always enjoyed drawing here and there, but I was never really good at it. I started when I was 14 and kept quitting whenever my drawings didn’t meet my absolutely unrealistic standards. I spent years picking up this hobby and then quitting a week or so later.
Two years ago, I was playing a drawing game with some friends, and among many other things I sketched, I decided that one of them had to be a monster of some sort—not sure why. To my surprise, although all the other drawings before that were quite bad, the monster actually turned out pretty well. So I kept drawing monsters that day, again and again, and most of them turned out well enough.
A few months later, when I properly got back into drawing with pen and paper, I decided to keep drawing monsters, just to see if I could come up with anything interesting like before. Imagine my surprise when I ended up sketching things that actually looked decent.
I guess the logic behind it is that as long as I draw something that isn’t exactly human, my lack of experience and anatomical knowledge can be used as improvisation—creating things that look pretty messed up but, in turn, end up looking quite cool. So, I kept doing it.
I’m nowhere near great at this—don’t want to give anyone that idea. But I enjoy it. And, just like with my recent weird article, as long as I enjoy it, I'll keep doing it, because I’m being more productive this way than trying to be serious and only posting very high-quality, polished work.
I might come back to this drawing and continue polishing it, or I might never touch it again. But whatever the case, it was fun making it. I guess that's the whole point - having fun.
