A Red Flower and Butterfly

I like this technique, but it is kinda boring. I am going to try a new technique just using lines called "cross contour line drawing." If you click on the link to my work in progress article you can see what this looks like and a link to an article that takes one through different kinds of line drawing. I feel from my experience drawing two pictures using Gelly Roll pens; gel-pens work the best with the line drawing technique. They can do fill work, but it doesn't look as dramatic as a line drawing on black paper in my opinion.
I sketched out my 3rd drawing, which will be finished just using Cross Contour Drawing.
Using some of my rewards from Steemit I exchanged SBD for BTC and bought my black drawing paper with my Shift card through Coinbase. This paper has a fine finish that catches the detail you can get from gel pens. I think I paid $15.00 at my local Michael's Craft and Art story for 60 sheets of 11in x 14in, 64lb.I hope you all try your hand at drawing and creating art. Even if you suck at first, the exercise will soothe frazzled nerves and feed your creative nature. I strongly feel we are all born creators and if you truly want to draw, paint, sculpt, work in wood or whatever material you want, you can do it!
I have 68 different colored pens with two different tip sizes. The color of the pen casing does not represent the true color of the pen's ink. Also, the pen's ink will change color depending on the color of your paper. Getting to know my colors in this medium is fun, I love to explore new things. Some people may think this looks like a lot of work, your idea of work is my idea of fun!
My memory works best when I write down information in detail. For some reason doing this task sticks the data into my long-term memory data banks I call my memory library. I learned how to do this memory trick from a psychology class I took, and my professor mentioned mnemonics memory tricks.

I agree the line drawings on black paper with gel pens really pops.
This drawing just isn't as striking as the last one.
However, i am not sure i would do it any other way. There would be too big of voids for this drawing to work with just the edges.
And to all people who think about becoming artists, grab the pencil and the paper and start doodling.
(and then burn the paper in the fireplace so no one can see it.) ^_^
You and I think alike @builderofcastles, from now on I will use subjects that don't have a lot of open spaces like the flower petals.
I want everyone to grab a pencil and start drawing, don't listen to the voice in your head that says you can't draw like me...draw like you! Art is a great way to know yourself too!
Art is something we all supposed to have the knowledge of, even if it is basic. But some of us had believed it is for some set of people and that only people specialise in art can make it.
Art is defined as deliberately arranging elements in a way that appeals to the intellect, sense or emotions.
But when I'm in secondary school, they segregated us into classes according to our basic knowledge, either in art or in science. Therefore, some who have the idea keep developing, why some of us without the basic knowledge moved to the other departments.
But I quet agree with you, one thousand miles journey start with a single step. We can all learn as long as we were ready and willing to. Especially with someone like you and how you always explain your work, detailing your art materials systematically. we can all make something happen.

The special or gifted artist continue to make art throughout their life no matter what happens to them...
Many gifted artist in music, drawing, painting, and dance don't continue their study and practice and the gifts they bring to this world are not realized...
No one is equal regarding talents but those who have no talent but struggle in practice to learn an art can be as gifted as those who are born with an artist gift but are lazy, never developing their talent...I've seen this throughout my life!
The first step is the hardest but the really hard part is continue walking when you don't feel like it...hahaha

This is me being speechless.
Unlike your last few works (Chickenosaurus and the Kelpie) I wasn't able to follow the progress of this one. It just came out of nowhere in my feed and it left me a little dizzy by it's beauty.

I've tried drawing many times, but I still can not, people say drawing is not part of my life, and I believe that, only some of us are endowed with skills like you, do you agree with me @reddust?
There are good tutorials on youtube that teach one to draw no matter their talent @steemitcountry. I think we all come to this earth with special skills and talents, but many of us don't realize them because we have negative thoughts about ourselves. No one is born equal and there are the gifted in the arts, scholarship, mechanics, math, science, sports, and the spirit...those born with the gift of the spirit have the hardest time because they don't teach how to the spiritual gifted in our school system. I think the drug addicts and mentally ill people are the unrealized spiritual gifted of our world. They don't have an outlet for their special gift and it turns on them, they are consumed by their unrealized gifts.

My daughter, our artistic friends, and I will be opening a little store selling our art and crafts along with antique clothing next year 2019. I will be funding the business project and running the business. That's why I am building up a collection of art, Steemit has given added fuel to run our little art and craft shop!

The butterflies are back! I am super excited. I like how the color pops off the page. I think that the white outline of the petals and the butterfly make everything stand out even more.

I like the white line as well, the pens that are transparent and sparkly can dull the opaque colors, I use the transparent color to blend sharp edges and mix colors...something else I learned.
I learned a lot with this drawing, like what not to do...hahaha

So many colors to choose from! You show how the Steemit program works. Against the black paper, the bright colors stand out more. I have a soft spot for butterflies. Thanks @reddust.

@reddust, I'm glad to see those superior piece of final production. I learn more things from you. You shared your every memories to us and then it will increase our brain power. I appreciated your new technique of cross contour line drawing. It's fantastic seems and being most valuable for drawing work. You granted soul to these butterfly finally. He is drinking honey from flower. Absolutely greatest work and wish you success for will do more work.

Purdy Cool! You just gave me great birthday idea for my wife :). She loves art but hasnt done much with it. When we first got together one of our dates was crayons and drawing/coloring. Hers came out way better than mine :], although i do have some hidden talent in here somewhere. Love your art.
Art supply sets make the best gifts, I always buy my daughter and grandkids art supplies. We all sit together and create art during our down times. It's a great way to spend time together. Just the act of creating is great, it is hard to judge what is good art you know...what is beautiful is in the eye of the beholder...

As the nature is colourful and beautiful, same way your art reflecting that beautiful and colourful essence and also it's reflecting the beautiful relationship between nature and it's creature. And good to know that you converted SBD into BTC, and now we have many payment options too and in my opinion soon we will turn into Crypto world. I will make a video showing my process using gel pens. I need to practice some more though, I think after my 5th picture I will feel confident. Making video's is a pain in the neck though, it takes for ever to edit the data ...lolol

Thank you @ehabfox, I hope you can try the pens out, I will check out your art. The key to good art is practicing drawing, you know learn the basics. There are a ton of youtube videos that are excellent, I've watched at least a dozen showing beginning artist how to draw basic shapes, shadowing and perspective. Infact, now that I am writing this I think I will try working on some anatomy drawings, I suck at drawing the human form...mine always look really stiff and I haven't got the math, you know geometry of the body. It's all about math when you draw forms...the eyes line up with the ears, nose, mouth...etc that is what gives the face our unique personality.
You are right, so I need to learn the basics of painting and coloring and to practice drawing, I hope to become like you one day, thank you for your advice ❤
Wow that looks wonderful, I never tried this technique before but it has always caught my attention, both with gel pens and with normal colors. With the gel pens I remember the neon lights that I love. Great work, very good details of the flower pistils and the wings of the butterfly. Come to my blog and check my artworks.
The flower pistals were my favorite too @omart, my daughter was given a set of gel pens by her boyfriend and I gave her some black paper (she is 38 year old artist). So I am happy that other people are getting into gel pens...although I am thinking twice about buying more because of the plastic, I wonder if I can recycle used gel pens? I am going to have to check that out, my conscious is bothering me...I try and avoid buying plastic products.
It's a pleasant feelings when you spend your SBD or steem for your hobby. You have super memory as well as amazing artist. Playing will gelly roll gel pens ended up in an amazing drawing. I like it @reddust
I have a horrible memory, I can't memorize more than 3 numbers at a time or 3 words at a time, that's why I learned tricks...just like tricks keeping my house clean without having to work too hard...hahaha

Hopefully we will experience healthy and steady growth in the crypto markets this summer and be ready for large spikes in prices this fall...it seems to be a pattern sell off for profits and fall in prices after the first of the year and then a leveling off where nothing much happens until summer, prices climb and fall but nothing dramatic.
Great art with cross-contour lines. @reddust.. Cross-contour lines help we to understand the solid form of an object that you're drawing. We can actually make visually striking drawings with just those contour-lines ...

I love your plan of using the coinbase shift card. How did you decide at which point to start using it? My steem income isn't very huge yet, but a shift card is in the plan eventually.
I have an account on coinbase and I did some research before picking the shift card. I went to a dozen sites online and read reviews by users...it's easy to sign up if you don't mind using your social security number....you don't need to provide a bank account for the BTC wallet on coinbase...I trade my sbd for btc on bitshares, unlike coinbase bitshares doesn’t force one to provide detailed personnel data for trading Cryptocurrency.
Yeah, I already have a CB account. It's just a matter of deciding when to start using it. I've used it as my primary fiat to crypto gateway since December. I'm thinking I'll use the pay from my next side job for setting up a shift card. Have you used the coinbase USD wallet?
I haven’t exchanged any crypto for usd, but I plan to for trading, I’m still researching, trading for profit and it is kinda scary🤓
I didn't know about bitshares though. Do they have a mobile app that you could recommend? I very rarely use a desktop.
@nateonsteemit, I have a desktop app for bitshares, I dunno if they have an app for Mobil devices. As soon as I make a trade I send my coin through openledger bridge to my personal wallet and use only enough to fill my shift debit card, you can limit how much coin the card can take from your CB btc wallet. I don’t keep a lot of crypto on exchanges ...you never know what’s going down...
