Posting a copy of an artist’s © art without permission in order to receive upvotes and money is not polite.
I have noticed countless posts of art images by posters who do not own the art. They give no credit to the artists who created the art.
I do not understand why these posts receive large amounts of upvotes and money … while many original artists creating fresh new art often receive little or no votes. Often these creators spend decades learning their craft, yet their work is taken in seconds.
These unethical posters do not ask the artist’s permission, they do not list the artist’s name or give the creator any credit. They simply take images from the internet and make money from art that they did not create.
Please support artists who invest their time, energy, and money to bring us original art…. and may we encourage others to stop upvoting those individuals who are profiting from someone else’s hard work and concepts.
... and thanks to @bentleycapital for their wonderful support of original art.
Exactly. If we all work together to report abuse and make sure to do our best to never up-vote these fuckers that would be helpful too. We need more people talking about this and realizing that it can be different.
Hello @art-mess Thanks for what you are doing to support original art. Really appreciate you. And yes, lets stick together and make Steemit a better place for creativity.
its like these thieves have never heard of google image search. its easy right click over image and select image search from the menu.
Plagiarism is such a problem, and it seems like these people will never learn, even when they are called out on it again and again. They don't even attempt to legitimise it by including a link to the original source, because they know what they are doing is pretty much theft. Especially on a site like this. I feel like so much of the copyright free art deserves so much more than just a hyperlink saying image source, I have recently started including the artists name as well, they put so much effort in to creating something beautiful, their name should be there !
I agree with you @culluna. There is an old saying between artists… "Stop trying to pay us with exposure". No other industry gives away their product for free. Try buying groceries, gasoline, or paying rent with a hyperlink . :-)
When art is given away for free, it is easy to take it for granted, which I was definitely guilty of doing when I first started posting stories, it was actually interactions with you and other artists on here that made me think about it more and change how I credit the artist, so thank you!
