Hello Steemitans!
4 years ago I've had been given a task to create an image which will give the viewer the feeling of 1960's fashion.
Well, of corse being young art student I immediately thought of revolution, psychedelic colors, blossom of new art era, happy high people, great music and freedom. As sex, drugs, and rock 'n' roll defined the 60's.
People rarely think of sixties as the age of terror, guns and street gang violence, where violent revolutionary groups arose, this decade was about political change. Not to mention the assassinations of political heroes.
The teacher gave each one of us a task to create an image which will give the viewer the feeling of a certain decade. I picked the 1960's. This task was given due to fact that we are advertising designers, we had to understand where every style is coming from, and know when and where to use certain decades as a part of design and advertisement.
Not only we had to create an atmosphere for the shoot, we had to also create an image based on our beliefs: what the world of fashion would look like after 10 years.
My idea for that was, that people would dress in earth colors, wear only natural fabrics, the ones which don't harm the environment and majority of the people would not care for fashion at all, because global fashion brands including H&M, Zara and Marks & Spencer are buying material produced in factories that devastate peoples’ health in Indonesia, China and India.
In one instance in West Java, Indonesia, locals were found washing viscose products in the river, directly exposing themselves to toxic chemicals contained in the fibre.
In Madhya Pradesh, India, which is home to a large viscose plant, families were found to be suffering cases of cancer and birth deformities after their groundwater and soil was contaminated by industrial pollution.
We didn't have any budget for creating the perfect space for a photoshoot like this, which was great for the teacher, because he would quickly see who had what it takes to deliver a story behind a photo or not.
So I called the wife of a Danish rockstar "Louie Fontaine" and asked her if I can get my hands on some of her fabrics she collected over the past years traveling across the world with her lover. Most of them where from Venezuela and the boots in the picture are Louie's Fontaine's tour boots!
Anyways,
I wanted to create the illusion of the person falling out of a dream..our own personal dream. In this case, time goes both ways, because the person is creating the illusion of falling out into freedom and at the same time, hovering in between and leaving us in the middle of decision.
