Kaleidoscopic trips: "Theft Repaid"

in #art7 years ago

Theft Repaid@0@0.jpg

This week's kaleidoscope has a bit of a redemptive story line in it's creation. But first, a tour of the components. This piece has a base of white alabaster, supporting a brass scope barrel. The carved ridges each carry a different glass ball. Two of these are liquid-filled with various miscellaneous floating objects that create certain effects, one is a dry filled object chamber, and one glass ball is a solid marble. Each of these balls can be exchanged for viewing. The brass scope gets pulled out of the stone base and pointed at a light source, and then you can turn the ball within the wire spring cage for your viewing extravaganza. It might look something like this:

So, this creation is a bit like a nautilus-shaped shell. When you see a shell with a small hole or two in central spots, you can tell that the inside body has been sucked out by another predator. In this project, the alabaster "shell" has been filled with a new and unexpected life form. It gets to carry something fresh and interesting. This is a theme that I find hopeful, and worth contemplating. The more I aim for rejuvenation (instead of being overwhelmed with negativity), the more alive I become.

Every day brings possibility. For any and all of us!

Thanks my friend!

Kaleidoscope is now term to me and I learned about it from your post. Thanks for sharing with us. Is it someones profession to make such thing? or just person skillfulness?

Usually kaleidoscopes are known as a children's toy, made from cheap materials that involve a 3-part mirror system and something at the front to create a mix of colour and textures for viewing. Making kaleidoscopes is not known as profession, generally. Around the world there are a few strange artists that have taken this idea to extremes and create pieces for collectors, often known as parlor scopes. As a sculptor I happily fell into this world several years ago and have continued to create unusual variations just because. (Can't help it!)

It's a sophisticated kaleidoscope ! The idea of removable balls is really nice. resteemed . @originalworks

If I've understood you piece of art, it has both internal and external beauty - just like a few people I've met.

My odd comment aside, I love the artistic qualities, but just as much, i value the originality.
