WAITING

There is so much waiting in art. Waiting for the shipment to come, waiting for the kiln to come down, waiting for paint to dry. LITERALLY.

I'm waiting now on acceptance. Waiting to find out if I made the cut. It's like somewhere between having a splinter you can't get out, or having an itch you can't scratch. Every artist has these moments. Actors wait for parts, dancers wait for auditions. Artists wait for opportunity. It's the nature of the beast.

I try to distract myself, and it works pretty well, until that last couple days. Checking emails incessantly, checking that your ringer is up. It's a special kind of torment.

It also kills focus and serenity, everything you need to continue on.

I start things and can't finish. I watch tv but I'm not watching.

And people tell you to just forget about it. But you are waiting for your future! You are waiting for Lady Luck to knock on your door! There is not much else to do, but succumb.

And so, I wait.
