In San Gabriel, the largest mural in Ecuador was made, with a dimension of 925 square meters. This activity was developed during the IV Graffiti Festival, organized by the municipality.
Fifteen artists from Colombia, Peru, Cuenca, Puyo, Quito, Ibarra and San Gabriel participated in the construction of this visual project.
Santiago Enríquez, technician of Montúfar Joven, explained that the day began with the 'Dialogue graffitero', which addressed the problem of the "vandal graffiti" and on issues inherent in heritage conservation.
materials
Herney Luna, who led this proposal that materialized in one of the walls of the old Alberto Acosta school, indicated that they used 650 aerosols and six acrylic cans.
Luna dedicated this work to the peasants, who, he says, tirelessly till the fields. The leader of the Graffiti collective San Gabriel commented that on a national level the record was broken when painting a mural of more than 900 square meters.
The inauguration and official delivery of the mural will be offered on May 1, Labor Day, with the delivery of a manifesto that includes the construction of the first Urban Art Gallery in Carchi.
Support young people
Juan Acosta, Mayor of Montúfar, said it is important to support youth groups from the municipalities, "because creativity and participation of this sector is strengthened in different cultural, social, sports and academic projects."
For Francisco López, student of the José Julián Andrade Educational Unit, the proposal prioritizes young people, providing spaces that include different youth groups, as is the case of graffiti artists.
San Gabriel has managed to position itself over time as the cultural capital in Carchi, as Marcelo Hernández Revelo, cultural manager, points out, who considers that graffiti is part of cultural diversity and is a form of expression of young people.
Arturo Guevara, who is part of the intense cultural movement that is recorded in the capital of Montúfar, argues that this modality reflects an inscription, painting or anonymous drawing of critical, humorous and sometimes rude content, recorded or written on walls or walls of public places .
However, he clarifies that in this type of festivals that take place in his city, the difference is marked by artists who return to these expressions of popular urban art in true works of art that improve the image of the city, without threatening the decoration and heritage.
