The Inspiration For This
This is an abstract experiment in Corel Painter 18.
I was experimenting with using the sponge and speckle brushes to build up more organic, natural looking textures. The thing I found is that it is very difficult to recreate natural looking textures of the sort that you see in classic abstract works.
It makes sense that the chaos of nature textures is actual difficult to simulate in a digital manner - it is hard to make it look right.
In the end I had to build up the layers and it took a very long time to get it looking this way.
I'm not sure how successful it is. In the end I estimate this was made up of about 50 or so layers (some of which I had to collapse to save memory). It took significantly longer than some of the other pieces because of this.
I think doing this in actual real life would have been a lot easier (although it may have involved more waiting around due to paint having to dry).
In the end I think it looks somewhat reminiscent of a blood vessel when magnified. Make sure to enlarge it to see the textures properly (right click the image to open it in a new tab)
I hope you like it.
Also (as I usually say) feel free to use it in your own posts if you can find a use for it.
Damn! 50 Layers are a lot. But looking at all the shades you've used I can imagine it. I can also understand this one took way longer than the others because the others were 'flat' and with horizontal lines. This one has depth and visualising that takes longer.
Great Piece though! Good job :D
Thanks:)

This painting is, as the title suggests, more an abstract depiction of psychological terror than representative of a thing in reality such as a blood vessel. The flesh colour might connote a bodily association but I see it as more akin to eyes shut against a horror. I've been intending to use one of your abstracts to illustrate a story and have just been waiting for the right one. But honestly, I think this piece is inspiring me to write a tale using the painting as a prompt. I've done that before for Fiction Trail contests so we'll see where it goes. Nice work!
Wow that is an amazing description. I would love it if you used it for one of your pieces of writing. Please send me the link if you do!
I'm on it right now, actually - just gathering bits and pieces using your pic as a visual prompt - so far, I've developed several literary images that way. Don't know how long it'll take but I'll be sure to let you know.
Cool!
Great digital abstract art.
I don't know how do you have time to do so many things.
Well using digital painting with Corel Painter and Artrage saves a lot of time!
It looks like the inside of an oesophagus
Yes or a blood vessel! I suppose the concept of an internal abyss could be taken as literally being internal spaces like an oesophagus.
Inside an esophagus? was my first thought which came in my mind.
I thought more blood vessel but you are right it looks like an OGD examination. Interestingly if you do a bronchoscopy (inside the lungs) - healthy lungs also can look quite similar to this, as do most parts of the gut. I suppose the body is in many ways a collection of lots of tubes and most of them look like this.
That's cool that you completely made this. When I first saw it, it reminded me of an arty close up pic I took of a coffee mug I had in work that has been left unwashed for a week or more!
Well those textures can look amazing! I love natural texture photography - good ones look like amazing abstract art pieces.
They do and that's what immediately drew me too it. It's all about that close up detail!
O wow. This is really neat and purely simple. It looks like a black hole but not the destroying one, rather it's representing life .
Because of it's color combination, this is looking just great :)
Again a big thumbs up for your work sir @thecryptofiend
Thank you:)
You're welcome sir. First of all, you don't need to say thanks. It's your skills, talent and hard work. You deserve all the praise :)
The elaborate patterns make me initially think of a sea shell with its many intricate ribbons of textures and tones
However, I can clearly see the abyss. All light, hope and prosperity getting dragged and consumed by this plume of darkness. Everything with motion gravitating towards that singularity to experience nothingness and gloom. It also looks like a hollow tube leading to somewhere. Despite how ominous darkness may be, it is also an exciting mystery.
A great piece of abstract art @thecryptofiend.
Keep it up! :)
I think it could be - a lot of natural structures have this pattern.
Yes and it could also represent an internal void. Thanks for your kind words.
Wow I'm amazed by your talent everyday @thecryptofiend , you always seem to amaze me with your work and I love it . I can see you put in a lot of work for this masterpiece, great job . I literally was getting lost on the center of it
Thanks you are too kind!
It's my pleasure , when I see talent , I just express my thoughts ! Steem on
:)
@thecryptofiend - To me, it looks more like an endoscopic image of the throat - I, therefore, think of it as 'tunnel of breath' (would have tried something more poetic like 'tunnel of life' but then it has different connotations (related to child birth) so I refrained. LOL. Maybe I am biased because of the tests I have seen my father undergo. Irrespective of what it conveys, the real amazing part is the organic textures. 50 layers to create it? Hats off to your patience and persistence. It is a lesson in digital art. Thanks for sharing. Upvoted. Cheers
Yes it could be! Thank you - I was trying to think of more evocative names but I thought people might think it more NSFW!
Hahaha. True. That is why I also used very cautious language. :)
Well done! I know it takes a lot of production time so you deserve to get PAID! This is coming from somebody who once took 60+ hours to render an image on an old hoped up Compaq 386
Lol thanks. I'm not complaining though. When I was at school I used to try to do art on their 386s and 486s then and without graphics acceleration it was a nightmare so we have come a long way! The weird thing is there is still a long way to go when it comes to replicating the real world and real materials. Some things are quicker, some things take longer. It does cut the material costs out though. I recently went out to look at getting some new paint supplies and either I had forgotten how much this kind of stuff was or they have really gone up in price. Even little bottles of professional paint are shockingly expensive.
Beautiful..
Very good digital art..
Nice post
Thank you!
It looks like the black hole however in beautiful colors..look good indeed, upped. Thanks for sharing and have a blessed weekend.
Thank you!
welcome, always. Keep steeming to more success.
Overall I think you were successful at creating an interesting looking texture. Most digital art looks flat compared to real life art.
Thanks!
This painting gives me an eerie feeling..
Then it is working!
I can see a moon for aliens there :O
I enlarged and looked.
It was interesting!
Cool glad you like it!
Beautiful art. its awesome :)
Thank you.
Buen experimiento
Thank you:)
Love digital art just downloaded Procreate for the ipad pro cant believe how easy it is to use will be putting out some artwork soon. Keep up the good work and stay inspired. 👍 https://steemit.com/@darrenwilliams
I haven't tried that yet as I don't have an Ipad Pro although I think I will need to get one at some point. I think it should be a bit more intuitive if you can draw on the actual surface of the screen rather than on a separate tablet.
Very good post my dear friend @thecryptofiend !
Thanks!
Awesome talent @thecryptofiend , Thank you for sharing
Followed
Thank you:)
Cool artwork @thecryptofiend
I hope in the future an app that can use real brushes to paint, or is that too much to wish for? Its because its hard to use a finger on my tab to paint :/
Actually I'm sure eventually someone will make a tablet that allows you to use a brush to draw or paint - or at least something more similar. It just feels weird holding a pen to paint with a brush and it is not precise enough compared to using an actual brush which you can turn on it's side or push down to change the width etc. Right now it is either your finger or a fixed pen.
It is a nice concept if we come to think of it but they have to make it substantially larger because of the brushes but then again it may cost much.
I had seen aired on TV many years this show of an artist making paintings. It is just inspirational to do what he does as he makes it so easy, then you see the result as satisfactory. I forgot the name of that painting show. Maybe I will research it on Youtube, it might be in there.
You have an amazing talent :D
Congratulations
Thank you:)
Looks like a tunnel to another world:) But why were 50 layers needed?
It didn't look right when I applied too much pain in the same layer. Something kept going wrong with it but I think I will need to look into the details of how the brushes work to figure it out.
I see... Yes, sometimes when it comes to traditional art it becomes too hard to put emotions in the same work and you have to take a pause or may be even quit it, since you have only one layer. But when it comes to digital everything looks different
Nice dear friend Up&Resteem
Thank you!
My pleasure dear friend :))
Great work, Im a big fan of abstract painting, Im also a graphic designer so I love digital art to. Im currently working on an abstract flag project. you can check it later on my blog if you wan
Interesting. Will do.
I thought it was a colonoscopy :s
:)
Its a nice piece of art thanks i wonder how you do this.
With Corel Painter:

Thanks for link.
You're welcome.
A very useful experiment, and I just found out about an experiment you did
I wish you success,,,
Thanks!
A very deep abstract, full of art @thecryptofiend
Thank you!
you are welcome :)
I have a new artwork, I'm sure you'll love it @thecryptofiend
Wow, that's another stunning painting from you, you've got real talent! I know I've said it before, but you really do compare well with Mark Rothko - your paintings share that fuzzy, uneasy feeling you get looking at his work that draws you in, as though you are trying to recall something just beyond your conscious level of thought. It invokes an unsettling feeling in me, it's really quite moving.
Have you considered selling prints ever? On Etsy perhaps, or even here on Steem?
That is very kind of you.
I don't think they are good enough for that to be honest. If people want them I could.
Ah, the self-doubt of a true artist! Don't sell yourself short, mate. You obviously put a lot of time and effort into your artworks, and that comes through. I'd say from the comments you already have some fans on here, and for all the wonderful things here on Steemit, it is still a relatively tiny platform, you might be surprised by the response from a wider audience!
:)
Why does that picture look like an ass hole?
I don't know. Maybe that is what is on your mind.
It actually does tho.
What's that noise on the dark spot in the middle? It takes away the 3D effect.
It's paint.
I know :D
nice post ♥
