The story

It was one month ago. I was scrolling down the Steemit's art trending, and suddenly, I've been hypnotized. It was a wonderful Milky Way Oil Paint made by @customnature. I was amazed, I couldn't believe my eyes... Therefor, I really had to leave a comment about my amazement.

Here's the conversation I had with him, that changed a part of my future artist pathway, the one that motivated me to add a new passion in my life.

I said: "Oh my god. You have a wonderful talent. The details are marvelous, and you look like you make it like nothing. It looks like sorcery to me. Oil painting is some kind of magic power, that only few people can master."

He responded kindly "Thanks @troilo, that's pretty much the best comment ever. lol "looks like sorcery to me". Maybe that's it! Because I can't drawl to save my life, but oil painting came relatively easily to me. I just started painting last October. Never did before that. This one took about 40 minutes to paint."

So I said: "Yours words really motivate me to try this out, but I doubt I will get these results in 8 months like you. You have an undeniable talent. But I will give it a shot. Thanks for the motivation!"

And he finally told me "That's awesome! Just taking the leap and trying it is the biggest step. When I did, I just went and bought the cheapest canvas, brushes, and smallest tubes of oil paint, and gave it a try. It came out pretty decent so I kept at it. Watch a couple Bob Ross videos before you do, I'd say. It's the best style of oil painting to start out with. Also, I'll help you out in any way I can, of course!"

And I told "I just noted it down on a piece of paper. Maybe in a couple months, you'll see me posting some oil painting. I will go buy some canvas, brushes, and oil paint tomorrow, and will start with the Bob Ross videos. Thanks for the wise advice! If I have any question I will come to you! Thanks again! <3"

And now, one month later, I bought some canvas, some brushes (the wrong ones, I couldn't do the trees properly, haha), 6 tubes of oil paint, started a random Bob Ross video, and gave it a try.
I will never be thankful enough to @customnature for the inspiration and motivation he gave me, and to Bob Ross (R.I.P.) for sharing his passion for free.

Here's the time-lapse video:

I feel it's the beginning of a new art love story with Oil Painting. It's now one of my favorite kind of meditative activity. (Even if I did it only once, that's crazy) I never painted before (only drawings), because I was thinking it was an old and experienced people's thing, but I was wrong. Everybody can give it a go, and will like it. Really, try yourself, it's a wonderful sensation.

Thanks for passing by, and see you soon for new adventures!

My god, I'd say you have "it", @troilo! That is a fantastic painting for your first one ever. AND you didn't even have all of the other equipment. I hope you pursue it further! I'm always here to help you with any tips or questions. Just ask on any one of my posts! Bravo, my friend! Reateeming this.

Hey! Yes for sure I will pursue it further. It was wonderful to discover the joy of oil painting. I will buy all the other tools as soon as possible, to paint a new canvas. I rejoice so much! Thanks again for your support my friend!

A natural Bob Ross! composition is great, the mountains slightly off center, gives the light reflection off their ridges a bit of a personality. <3

Haha, I love this comment. Bob Ross helped a lot. He know how to teach really well to put a bit of personality in your own paints. It's a real pleasure to discover this new passion. With a bit of training, it will come naturally. <3

totally! i gave up on realism but still rely on Bob for his philosophy :) it works in abstract too !

Love the timelapse video.. I've been meaning to capture one of my pieces from start to finish, but it usually takes days and I forget to set up the camera! LOL

Oils is my favorite medium too... although I've been getting into ink pen drawings lately.

Thank you Karen. I understand what you mean. That's why I set up the camera directly, and painted it all in once. Otherwise it becomes a mental battle to motivate yourself to set up everything again. ;)

Oils is the only medium I tested, so it's my favorite one too. Haha. Cheers!

hehe :) Have you tried clay? That's my other favorite medium... just harder to come by.

Really cool man! It's always good to have a meditative activity everyday. looking forward to seeing more of these :)

Yes you're right, it's joyful. Thank you my friend! :D

😊 oh yes really a Bob Ross - he was brillant, loved him. Good job!

Yep! He's now one of my favorite artist of visual creations and sharing of his passion. Thanks mate!
