A drawing inspired by the cold

in #art7 years ago (edited)

I began this drawing with one thought in mind “I hate when my fingers are coldcuffing season then maybe that’s for the best. ”. It’s very cold at @caffetto and my hands are slowly freezing over as I type. I’m also stuck between groups of people venting about their relationship woes. Cuffing season is now in full effect. 🙄 If you’ve never heard of

I successfully blocked out the noise coming from neighboring tables and began doodling. I still have some tweaking to do on my G-Dragon sketch so I figured I’d get some practice in.

Thanks to @steemitadventure, @reinhard-schmid and several others for the encouragement and positive feedback that I’ve been receiving over the past few weeks. I feel driven to produce better work through practice and it appears to be paying off.

My drawings recently have been more delicate. If you haven’t noticed then you can see it in my 2AM drawing from yesterday and from my relaxing sketch from four days ago. Let me know what you think of this new style that I’m leaning towards.

Instead of shading with a grey/black tone I chose to use the darkest warm tone that I used for sketching. Mixing warm shading to the cool added more color interest along with depth.

I thought the image looked a little weird floating so I added soft fabric like texture to the background.

I guess the best thing about feeling uncomfortable about this cold would be the inspiration that’s grown from it. I’m gonna grab myself a hot cup of coffee to warm up these fragile limbs of mine.

Thanks for stopping by and stay warm!

My fingers are always the first to get cold, how about you? 🦊

Great drawing! Hands are by far the most difficult things for me to draw! ;)

Thank you! They’re still pretty difficult for me as well. That’s why I’m practicing. :D

You are very talented. It's hard to control the mouse and do sketches at the same time. Salute

Thanks. :) I’m actually using a stylus. I use an Apple Pencil on my iPad Pro.

My toes numb out and I get miserable. Liking the softness your new work is showing, dark pastels of fall.

Those go numb around the same time as my fingers but I can usually ignore my cold toes. Glad to hear that you’re digging it!

I'm loving the soft sketches you've been doing lately. The colors are really autumnal, in my mind, so perfect for the "cold" theme you're portraying. This cold hand drawing is giving me a bit of inspiration... I'll see if I can find the time to sketch it out later. :)
My fingers and nose are always the first to get cold... it's weird that they both seem to freeze at the same time. lol

Awesome, so I’m going in the right direction!

Yay, I love inspiring others. Let me know when it’d done and I’ll check it out!

For me it’s fingers/toes, ears and then nose.

I love the new style and delicate shading. ♡

My hands also get cold really quickly, I think I need those fingerless glows or something.

Yay, thanks for the feedback! I’ll keep rolling with this style. :D Fingerless gloves are a great idea. I usually get the duel gloves that are mittens that fold up to be fingerless.

Looking good @vermillionfox.

I’m trying to get to your level @leoplaw! Your hands are still the best!

Step by step, perhaps you will surpass me. =)

I’ll keep hoping and continue practicing until then! :D

Practice makes the master.

Pretty! :D Choosing those colors defin make it look cold :P .. and perhaps 3d when you put on those old 3d glasses :P

Hahha, I’ll have to find some of those glasses and see if they work!

Glad you find my comments encouraging! I only said what I said, because its true 😀

I'm quite in awe of this drawing. Hands are pretty much the hardest thing to draw and its really difficult to get them to look right. Don't think I could do it like that from scratch! Did you have a model or a reference?

I like the use of colors. Many of the old masters used green for underpainting skin tones.

I usually pull up more than one reference. Once I get the structure down then I’ll sometimes tweak it.

I’ve seen that before. There are a few other artist that I’ve seen start off with cool tones and then build with warmer tones. I’m pretty happy with the colors. I thought about adding yellow but that would’ve set me back.
