My first attempt at ink studies!

in #art • 7 years ago (edited)

I finally did it. I sketched with an ink tool. 😌 For those of you who specialize in ink drawings and have received praise from me, you're amazing. Sketching in ink is a huge challenge for me! Somehow, in my tired state, I forced my brain to shut off. I pulled up a few reference images and it finally happened.

I was sketching (in pencils) a pretty detailed portrait earlier in the night. When I started this study, I found myself cursing, trying to not sketch like I would if I were using a pencil.

I'm actually pretty satisfied with these quick studies. Honestly, I thought they'd turn out worse for my first try. I considered doing a quick video with commentary on the hyperlapse sketch. I chose not to for obvious reasons. 😴

Goodnight everyone! Thanks for checking out these ink studies! 🦊

Lovely work. That is so cool how you showed the videos of the drawings. Or are those GIFs? How did you do that without a pen in the picture? :)

Ah. Forgot to mention that this is a digital sketch done on the iPad Pro with an Appple Pencil. It's a video recorded automatically from the Procreate app. I turned that into a gif.

That's so awesome! I think my daughter would love that. I'll have to see if she already knows about it. Thank you!

You're welcome! Let me know if you have any other questions!

I think they are good. Try with a brush and some indian ink and just experiment with line-witdh, don't think of making anything beautiful, just look at the tip of the brush. I think it is good practise. When you use the less sensitive digitizer you will fell even more control.

I'll give it a try. Line weight has always been a struggle for me. I've got some white Indian ink stashed somewhere. I've been thinking of buying some traditional inks and paints to practice with. I've got a few ideas that I want to executive. Thanks for the advice!

Loving it, keep it up!

Great work! And i like the included hyper-lapse, not just the final result :)

Thanks! Yeah, they were fun to make!

Cool GIFs! Pleasant way to present your work! :)

Thank! Yeah it keeps it interesting.

Looks like you're getting the hang of it!
Isn't it nice when you run out of space for your current sketch, and you can just move stuff around?! Ah, the joys of digital sketching! I really need to get myself a new tablet.

You should! It's wonderful for adjusting the size on things. I'm always drawing them out of proportion. I've got an iPad Pro and it's very user friendly.

Those are very impressive! glad to see you sketching and keep that Ink work up you have a knack for it, even the hands are well done.

Hah! Thank! Yeah, I surprised myself. I went with it and I felt a little anxious but I'm pleased with the results.

Very Impressive @vermillionfox - that's great that you can record it as you go. Cool effect ....

Thank you! Yeah, Procreate has some neat functions! I'm still looking to set up a camera but for now this will do.

awesome work! Sometimes I sketch with ink pen and it's very different from skething with pencil, but it's funny ^_^

It really is! Thanks for stopping by!

I love drawing in Pen. I actually found some of the best pens I have ever used at the dollar store. They are amazing.

They must be magic. What brand is it?

It was fun to look the animated images. :) So nice!! @vermillionfox

Thanks @bontonstory, it's become a new favorite of mine to make.
