I have a really bad habit of not finishing paintings, I get 90% of the way there and give up! I am so impatient to wait for the paint to dry etc that most of the time I just move onto the next one before I have finished the first! So... I thought I needed to change this and before I can move onto the next painting I needed to finish the ones I have on the go!! So that't what I have done! Here are the two above that I have finished! They are my first oil paintings and I feel like I have a long way to go before I am going to be happy with what I get, I think it doesn't help that I am comparing myself to my father who is an AMAZING artist and have been for nearly 30 years! Whilst our styles vary widely I can't help but think even if he tried abstract painting they would be more successful than mine!
I am incredibly messy when I am painting, normally this is fine when I am painting with watercolour and acrylic but I have had to change my ways with oil!! It is awful to clean! One of the best things my father has given me for painting is this ceramic paint mixer palette, it is SO easy to clean and is so much better than the wood one I used to use! This painting only required black, grey and white paint so luckily I didn't get too messy when I was finishing it off!
I really struggle making things look realistic, the person kayaking doesn't really look like the right shape to me, I think you can tell how critical I am already!! Even though I have done many paintings before these two are the first that incorporate people, although you can't see their faces!!, that's going to be a hole new challenge!!, they still are really challenging to me! I love colours so I loved creating the different tones etc in them, but this may be why I have only just come to finish these two because I was just not happy with them!
This is the painting finished below, I am constantly learning and what I have found by actually finishing it is that next time I attempt a painting like this I know it will be better! I actually really like the clouds, I think I have managed to get a lot of depth in them which is something I worked on!
This one below didn't really need too much to finish it off so I just added some flecks of stars to give it more interest around the rest of the canvas and that was it. Again if I attempted this one again I know it would be better, I think I got the paints too muddy and mixed in so I need to remember to keep them CLEAN!!
And this one above is the one I am working on now, it is so far, a big improvement on the last two so I can't wait to finish it off and get onto the next one! Time to buy some more cavases and paint I think!

Wow! Great paintings! Waiting to see more and more from you :D
Thank you!! Well hopefully I can post some more! :)
Really like the left one in the first picture! I did quite some sketching and drawing in the past. What you were saying about 90% finishing and losing interest sounds very familiar. Stepping away from it for a while to finish it later really helped me.
Keep on going, you do not become a master over night! :)
Thank you, yeah it did help stepping away for a bit, or quite a while haha ! Thank you, I will keep going !!
You are super talent, Verity! I love the forest scene, (no surprise), you did get nice depth in the clouds. Pretty! x
Awww thank you, hahaha no I thought you would prefer that one somehow! Thank you, I was most happy with the clouds so that means a lot! x
