Here is my interpretation of this painting.
It is about the life that once was. Over a period of time the couple have lost the charm and the love that they had for one another; now they are together but there is a distance between them and the love they had is just a memory- the only thing that is keeping them together now-the only thing connecting them.
They have fancy things but there Love is now replaced by a sense of desolate. The chair has been pushed back indicating a sense of chaos and emptiness, things have changed-they are not what they used to be and it's time for them to think about where there life is at now. They are together but alone and lonely in a loveless relationship.
