Despite the mediocre screenplay, somewhere between “I don’t want it. “ and “She’s my queen.”, John Snow managed to famously quote:
“Our enemy doesn’t tire, it doesn’t stop, it doesn’t feel.”
-John Snow | GoT | Season 8
Mr.Snow was, of course, referring to snow zombies. However, I can’t help but draw the uncanny parallel between white walkers and bots. Thanks to the growing emergence of Robotic Process Automation (RPA) and Intelligent Automation (IA) tools, bots are appearing in our lives at an unprecedented rate. Instead of taking over the seven kingdoms, they are taking over our industries.
Why wouldn’t they?
A bot doesn’t tire; it performs consistently and is available as needed, 24/7.
A bot doesn’t stop; it won’t get sick nor will it ask for vacation days.
A bot doesn’t feel; its performance does not vary based on emotion nor boredom.
Thus, the fear of having our jobs replaced by bots have crept into fields ranging from finance, to human resources and even data management.
But are they truly taking over our jobs? Or are they simply changing how we work?
Throughout history, we have experienced paradigm shifts in how we work, design, create, exchange, manage and distribute; best referred to as Industrial Revolutions. Currently, we are living the Fourth Industrial Revolution, marked by artificial intelligence, robotics and the Internet of Things. While each previous shifts have been welcomed with resilience, time and time again, the change has shown to be rewarding for both our economy and lifestyle.
Taking the repetitive, time-consuming and mundane (ie robotic) tasks away from our jobs will create the space for more humane ones. Ones that require emotional intellect, creativity and ingenuity.
With the global RPA market size expected to reach USD 3.97 billion by 2025, perhaps “enemy” is not how we want to describe our future co-workers. In fact, being aware and adopting it firsthand will set you apart in your industry.
With an abundance of resources at your fingertips, becoming a pioneer has never been easier.
Current RPA tools are both robust and low-code. They are evolving to be more user-friendly than ever and adaptable for non-tech professionals.
Are you an accountant? How about an Accountant who can automate month-end reporting?
Perhaps, you are in Human Resources? How about a recruiter who has the ability to program virtual assistants to sort through emails?
The possibilities are endless and all that is required is a bit of creativity, time, and asking Siri for the free community versions to get started.
John Snow did know nothing, after all, but you sure will.
…
Metaphors aside, Snow should have left the army of the dead alone. Viserion would not have come to the rescue and the Night King would not own an ice dragon to break the wall. #RebootSeason7and8 #GeorgeRRMartin #IfYouKnow #YouKnow
