Hello friends stemians everything!
On this occasion I would like to tell you about an impressionist whose name is not so well known as the names of many of his friends he helped financially. French artist, Gustave Caillebott. His reputation as a protector of art for a long time is much higher than the painter. However, at the beginning of the 20th century, art historians reconsidered Gustave's artistic relics and changed their judgments.
The artist was born in 1848 in Paris. His family is upscale. Father is the owner of textile production, and also works as a judge at the Tribunal Senes Trade. At his insistence, the boy was trained in the Lyceum of Louis the Great at the Law Faculty. After receiving his education, Gustave became a participant in the Franco-Prussian War.
Interest in the painting by Caillebot emerged at the age of 12, when he moved with his family to Hyères, a town on the same river. The beautiful, inspiring landscape makes it work. He began to write everything he saw: parks, rivers, baths, boats and boats.
At the age of 26, Gustave first visited the Impressionist exhibition and a year later decided to take part in it. However, the effort did not work. Paris Salon rejects one of his most famous works, presented below. Having inherited great wealth from his parents, Gustave began participating in almost all exhibitions, not only as an artist but also as an organizer. The financial position allows him to pay for places, buy frames and help with money. For six years, the painter bought pictures of his friends and his whole life ensured their safety. Partly thanks to him today we have the opportunity to reflect on the large number of unique works of the Impressionists. Gustave himself often draws. After settling with his brother in Paris on the Osman Boulevard, he wrote many pictures with their apartment balconies, as well as a roof that was visible from its height. Most likely, this is the place where he likes the most. When you buy a house in Gennevilliers, the artist has become vice president of one of the yacht clubs. Then he stayed until the end of his life. In recent years, he wrote not only the scenery, but also still alive.
Gustave also often take pictures of family and everyday life. For example, the image below shows Caybott's father and cousin.
Then Gustave began painting lessons from famous artist Leon Bonn: first in his studio, and after some time at art school. There he made friends with painters like Edgar Degas and Giuseppe de Nittis. Then he also met Claude Monet, Auguste Renoir, Kamil Pissarro and many others.
A year later, Caybott tried again, but he was still an amateur artist, not taken seriously.
"Paris Day Rain" - one of the most famous paintings, where the painter is able to accurately convey the moment, unchanged in Paris at any time: almost always the gray and black skies, the most popular, the color of clothing.
The painter died in 1894 in his garden for a stroke. Regarding his work for a long time the conflict did not subside. The fact is that Caillebot bequeathed them to the state on condition that the entire collection will be in one place, accessible to the general public. But because the collection is too big, it is meant to be divided into sections and exhibited in different museums. And only after many years after the artist's death in the exposition of the museum D'Orsay, the will was executed
It is a shame he died so young; he was both talented and a generous hearted person. He also loved gardening.
Thanks, you are right... My friends
