I uploaded some process pictures from today's portrait painting in my last post along with the method that I chose for understanding the color palette. One thing that I forgot to do was take the names of some colors and try to match them directly with my tubes or make side notes of having them (because of limited color range in a set)
I have also observed many artists using Cad orange instead of vermillion which gives much better results. I might need to place orders for a few colors outside of my gouache set very soon! Anyway, I saw a change in results post color study and it really did make a difference in the portraits I have been trying to do. The ones that I have done before looked kind of flat and washed out but with this one I managed to get a little bit of depth. I find painting lips as one of the hardest things to do even though I LOVE this feature of face. Definitely need my 10000 hours in that! :P I would love to hear your opinion on this :)
