Today I was thinking of joining this Asksteemit concept of @nextgen622 and I would like to do this contest as TeamIndia.
My earnings are low currently so I'll start with 2SD but with time the giveaway prizes will increase.

Personaly, what i am missing most, is a good search function. Where I could specify my interested time fame, like 1 day, 1 week, 1 month, 6 month, & alltime. Present asksteem search results are hard use, it gives a mix many very old post, which in most cases are not relevant at all today

try https://beta.chainbb.com/ for what you are describing it is a forum style interface of the STEEM blockchain and as far as I can tell interchangeable with Steemit.com what you post comment and reply there is also visible on steemit.com as normal. Post payout rules differ slightly though.
Basically it takes the tag structure to order posts in a forum style.
I find it very useful to browse all kinds of post new or old by topic.
As an application it is still young but shows promise.
The feed of steemit.com as it is currently is unusable with too many following (I started over again with my following list, only follow those that have commented on my posts)
The metrics of followers are becoming pretty useless.
I have 130 followers but few seem to respond to posts.
I even am running an experiment this week where you can earn 5 SBD as the best commenter, nobody is even bothering to comment! (Pro tip, the first one that is able to put a one paragraph sensible comment together will win it, there is no competition!)

i think one thing that is missing is a way of forming micro communities.. like groups.. RIght now it feels like we are all in the same pot! That can be great but also it can be very nice to have a more cozy area where people can engage
First, I've rest'ed, up'ed and foll'd..
As for my feature suggestion. I am going to keep it real simple. The platform needs hundreds of basic UI/UX improvements (user interface/user experience) but I know one that could be done in 5 min by a dev today, if they would just handle it.
On the following/follower list pages. all the buttons are the same color. When I scroll the people that follow me, I have to really squint and go slow to find the ones left for me to follow in the bunch. pages and pages worth of scrolling to follow back the people who follow me. (something i consider only fair and nice and considerate to to)
Either let us just sort them, literally a one line, 2 second code patch to sort tables like this list or multi-color the damn buttons, steemit, green for followed (click to unfollow) and say, red or yellow for follow (not yet following, click to follow) - the buttons are merely different sizes now and it's blinding to dig through and find them.
I want to fish slap the developer who thought that was acceptable to release.
(it would be nice to be able to search followers and followees as well)

Nameable Folders/Playlist directories for each user (so we can bookmark/save and organize some of the awesome information found on Steemit).
Expand user profiles a bit more. Each user can display 3 to 10 photos. Visitors can click on a portfolio which shows a users best work.
Prevent users from getting flagged into oblivion by one member who is targeting that user!

Great points. Also change the "flag" icon into a "downvote" icon. As to my knowledge Steemit is the only app on the Steem network that currently shows a flag.

And here is how I think it can be improved. Used to run and then own an online forum and I did so quite successfully. At the moment my understanding is that a post is pushed down by all posts after that in all sections. And those with the biggest followings get more views and upvotes. That is great and there is nothing wrong with that. However with so many steemiteers now posts barely have a few minutes before they go into the oblivion and never be seen again. Especially for minnows without a huge following.
What I would love to see is posts pushed back up to the top whenever someone comments on them. Not just an upvote... but a comment. I believe that is a fair and justified way to reward a post when it is good enough for people to make the effort to reply to it.

In the end upvotes, as the system works currently, are the wrong metrics to determine the quality of the post. If the stated goal of steemit.com is to get quality content to float to the top I think it is failing miserably currently... it is a complete lottery so far.
Upvoting encourages gaming the system (and can be automated) and will not grow quality content for the steemit.com platform long term.
Also it will simply encourage piling on established authors with auto voting giving them default earning on their post no matter how mediocre their efforts.
At the moment the system is gamed by low effort /massive amounts of posts, with the hope to win the whale and curation lotteries.
Comments are very undervalued currently. And that biases the system against quality thought provoking posts.
Comments should be determining post earnings alot more than upvotes. Because they can't be automated as much as upvotes, it keeps people from gaming the system.
Because comments and then especially the amount of subcomments by different people will signal value much better than upvotes.
I would even square the weight if there are more sub-commenters on the comments (not made by the original poster) then you know you have an engaging post which has generated some kind of discussion.
(Of course flame wars should not be rewarded in this way, dunno how to account for that but I guess the flagging system would kick in)
For the curation system, I would combine the first upvote with the first comment to determine the curation rewards. If you find supposedly good content but are not even bothering to give it a comment, that sounds fishy to me!
Thank you for your support. And you are right, comments by the original poster should not be counted. That is kind of like steempower rich people upvoting their own posts. I still love the upvoting system, it makes things quite exciting.
Ye your reference to the whale lottery. As a minnow I see no way of doing that. It feels like trying to get rich in Vegas by owning casinos by going up against what is already there. Do you know what I mean?
I consider it growing pains, it will hopefully work out in the end. They are at least experimenting often which is important.
The frustrating bit is that I earned 22 SBD on a quick comment on an interesting thread on HF19, which is more than my 13 long form posts earned put together.
They had lots of comments by people who took time to read it.
It makes the whole system less interesting if your earnings depend more on luck than effort. If I would be a cynical person I'd give up on long form posts and just go whale fishing, following their comments and reply in the hope to provoke a massive upvote.
That would be a very big waste of time for me though and would take a lot of the fun out of it. At the moment I have the most fun ever in social media writing ideas and interacting with commenters.
But if things don't improve in a few months I am going shopping around for other platforms. Steemit.com will not be the only game in town for long... you can count on that.
I agree.... and I feel it check out my profile and follow if you think I deserve it. I made that many posts and made very little steem dollars. I got myself caught up in going for the steem. But in the end I am going to do what I love instead. I love writing and interacting and this place is better than Facebook. But yes I get it, if upvotes are what it is about, it is hard to not act with a vested interest. I wrote this not long ago. I meant it, and it got bugger all viewings.... It is a lost post already lol.

Only By This Three options:-
1)Always reply on your comments and comments on others post as much as possible.
2)Create Good Content which readers get interested.
3)Chat in Steemit.chat and made many friends.
Improvements in steemit ... ;)
Integrate Steemit and Steemit Chat more, kind of like how Facebook lets you chat while doing everything else.

It would be nice to have an integrated chat feature. As steemit grows I think the possibility of trolls will also increase. If there is a way to block them from harassing us that would be a nice feature.

Ad maybe also so animation for photos.. like a slideshow.. or even a video feature would be nice.. presently the only way to upload a video is by first uploading it on youtube and then posting the link here..

They need to automate new account validation so that people don't get frustrated waiting to join. I can understand that they need to reduce fake accounts, but Steemit needs a lot more users to be taken seriously.

First thing is by not reducing their SBD if someone have voted for you because I felt that wrong. And 1st day my post received lots of appreciation and $46.07 and it's been 3 days and now my sbd are 42.31. that seems unfair and reducing as well..
2nd thing why people only appreciate on day 1 coz after day 1 I felt that I'm lost. Only 2-3people like ur post who are new and the old steemians don't even like so much not even upvote Nd even I got advice from someone that if I will ask someone to upvote then people will give u a flag to reduce.
That also seems unfair .
And 3rd one is the Steemit chat. I think everybody will suggest for that too

I believe this is implemented in HF19, or at least it's now possible to differentiate in the amount of Steem you would like to give.
You need a certain amount of Steem Power to do this.
My account is too small right now, and thus I have to really on other people for information,
so I could be wrong.

Besides a proper search engine, I would really like to be able to separate blogs. For example I would also like to write in my native language.
But currently I won't because I can't separate my post's in different subject, and otherwise my feed would become cluttered for English only speakers.
