The Hound is Sansa's Protector

I'm gonna tell you the tale of Sansa Stark moving forward in George RR Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire. A theory if you will.

The Past
As she awakens as a fully flowered woman (she has her first period for the uncouth), Sansa casts a spell which binds The Hound, Sandor Clegane, as her protector. "Phooey," you say. "Can't be done," you say. Well, it can and has and here's how, step by step.

  1. Sansa awakens a newly flowered woman, or maid in ASOIAF vernacular.
  2. She cuts the moonblood (staying in ASOIAF vernacular) out of the sheet with a knife.
  3. She calls on her protector, The Hound, to save her. She calls on others too but they are long dead. She's a silly girl, cut her some slack. How good were you when casting your first magic spell?
  4. She casts the stained sheet with the blood into the fire.
  5. Cold, she finds The Hounds cloak on the floor and puts it on for warmth.
And Voila, seals the Hound as her protector!
It's all very technical but legally binding. You can read the fine print using link below.
[ Full Theory on Reddit.|https://m.reddit.com/r/asoiaf/comments/1uv7gr/spoilers_all_sansa_the_pretty_little_maegi/] Interesting point, by Westerosi law Sansa would actually be wed to the Hound, but that is in the fine print.

The Present Moving Forward
So, where were we? Ah yes, Sansa is about to be kidnapped in the Eyrie and our hero, the Hound Sandor Clegane, has found religion. Littlefinger has hired Ser Shaddrich (the Mad Mouse) on as household guard to protect Sansa who is posing as his niece Alayne.

And if you remember Brienne ran into the Mad Mouse when she first set out to find Sansa. The Mad Mouse tried to cut a deal with Brienne to split Queen Cersei's bounty for Sansa. But Brienne wouldn't have it, so they parted ways. But, 2 books later it appears the Mad Mouse has succeeded in locating Sansa and is in position to claim his prize.

Meanwhile on Quiet Isle. .......
The Hound is digging graves.

Quiet Isle is by The Saltpans directly south of the Eyrie. And coincidentally, The Saltpans are a great place to board a ship for King's Landing, where Ser Shaddrich and his cohorts can collect the bounty on Sansa. To lose the posse Littlefinger has sent after them, the kidnapping party takes the secret walkway to Quiet Isle. Boatless, Littlefinger's posse is unable to pursue. But uh oh, what have we here?

Our hero!

The hound rescues Sansa!

Single-handedly the Hound Sandor Clegane kills Ser Shaddrich and his evil cohorts and takes his rightful place as Lady Sansa's protector!

The Hound Kills Littlefinger!
How did Littlefinger gain his titles? King Tommen gave Littlefinger Harrenhall and the Riverlands. When Tommen dies, (and he will) he loses Harrenhall and the Riverlands. And without the protection of the crown, the Lords Declarent will not be squeamish in their removal of Littlefinger as Lord Protector of the Vale. And with these titles gone, where will he turn? To Sansa. He still thinks he has her under his little finger. But she has the Hound as her protector now. And the Hound knows Littlefinger betrayed Sansa's father. He was there when the shit went down. Bye! Bye! Littlefinger! The Hound kills Peter Baelish on orders received from Sansa Stark.

God it felt good to write that last line!

I know he's already dead on the show, but for some of us, it doesn't happen until George puts it down on the page.

I hope you like this little theory. Thank you for reading.

I could see that. I have always seen the Hound as her stand in for Lady and being her protector. Never caught the blood sacrifice essentially too. Nice one

I came across that blood magic theory on reddit, got me thinking what it would mean.

So by Sansa wrapping herself in his KG cloak is akin to a wedding cloak......what a brilliant thought .....

That's a common theory and not mine. I just thought it needed to be included. I haven't seen anyone else pimping the kidnap plot, which to me seems obvious. I'm sure others are, I just haven't seen any theories on subject.
