So what's going on with Mars?

Mars is currently in Aquarius. It moved into this sign in mid-May ... and turned retrograde on June 26. (It dips very briefly back into Capricorn for a while -- starting August 12 to September 10 ... but not really enough to make a big difference.) Mars turns direct on August 26. It leaves Aquarius finally in mid-November -- so we have long time to work with this energy.

Yes, a retrograde Mars means something special -- just like a retrograde Mercury. We'll talk about that ... so stay tuned. But first, let's understand more about Mars in Aquarius ... in general.

When Mars combines with Aquarius

Mars represents the way you use physical energy, the way you take action, the way you get things done. Aquarius is the most intellectual of the Zodiac signs. It prides itself on its ingenuity. It values progressive ideals. It is the humanitarian of the Zodiac.

So, what happens when you put these two together? Well, here are some things to know about Mars in Aquarius.

  • It often acts based on theories and concepts. It doesn't have much respect for tradition. It's willing -- even eager -- to experiment and try something new. It is famous for acting on inspiration and taking risks ... just to see what happens.

  • Given a choice between using a tried-and-true method or taking an unusual approach to a project -- or a problem -- it will opt for novelty every time.

  • It is deeply interested in progressive projects, inventions and ideas that will improve the future for humanity. It is very future-oriented and has strong ideas about the kind of world it wants to help build.

If you were born with Mars in Aquarius

  • You are known for your eccentricity. You rarely do anything in a "normal" fashion. To everyone's surprise, your ways usually work out -- if they just leave you to your own designs. You, on the other hand, never had one moment's doubt.

  • You show real ingenuity in your approach to life. Your independence is your trademark. You don't ask for help or permission before you do something. Sometimes you consult with others (especially like-minded thinkers) in order to get their ideas, but you don't take their advice unless you agree with it -- and you will not be told what to do.

  • You go out of your way to help others -- and often the work you do or the avocations you follow are specially focused on building a better tomorrow. That's certainly how you approach them. Even if you work at a fairly mundane job, you see it as a way to improve life for others.

  • Mars energy is Warrior Energy -- and with Mars in Aquarius, you will fight for important causes, the ideas and principles you believe in and you have a special place in your heart for the underdogs in a conflict. You champion your own ideas relentlessly -- and no one can ever say you don't have the courage of your convictions.

When Mars is in Aquarius -- as it is right now

  • You're especially interested in finding like-minded thinkers -- and forming alliances with them. Nothing formal. Some loose-fitting arrangement that marks each of you as part of the group ... but encourages your independence and autonomy is exactly what you're after. You want to find "your people, your tribe," but you don't want to be hemmed in or defined by them.

  • You give a lot of conscious thought to your future -- and the future unfolding for everyone. You have -- or will quickly develop -- a vision of where you want society to go, the direction you think humanity should take, the conditions you want to help create -- the ideas you want to prevail. And then you will find ways to give these things momentum.

  • You feel impatient and restless. You may be full of ideas you want to test out -- or projects you want to launch, new opportunities you want to embrace, etc. You're unusually willing to take risks -- especially if you "have a hunch" they'll work out ... or if your own ideas are behind them.

  • You're eager to break out of a rut and try something new -- especially something you've never done before. Your intuition is especially strong -- and you may see new applications for your talents, new interests you want to explore, or creative solutions to problems in what can only be called a flash of pure genius.

Working with Mars in Aquarius

  • Listen to your intuition. It's the voice of your Inner Genius.

  • Let your originality shine. Be you!! You're one of a kind. Let it show.

  • Don't stick to the well-worn path. Blaze some trails of your own.

  • Exercise your ingenuity. Explore new interests. Investigate new opportunities. Take risks. Seize the moment.

  • Don't be afraid to stand on your own -- or strike out on your own if that's what it takes to try out a new idea -- or make progress on some promising venture.

Thank you for stopping by!

If you've always known there was more to Astrology than Sun Sign material and the three line daily horoscope in the newspaper, climb aboard and follow this blog. You'll find a world of wisdom detailing how you were designed to work with life ... and why you are the way you are -- all in quick-to-read, easy-to-digest-and-remember, written-in-plain-English essays that offer plenty of food for thought.

Little by little, I'm doing a set of articles that talks about all the elements in your horoscope and what they have to say about you. If you "know something" about Astrology -- or know something about your chart placements, that will help you get more from this material.

If you don't ... well, this is one place you can learn. We all have to start somewhere ... because we aren't born knowing this stuff. Meanwhile, if you've never seen your horoscope ... and don't have a clue how to work with it, maybe it's time to find out. There are lots of "chart services" on the internet -- some of whom produce decent, readable charts "for free" and some are so awful and confusing that even I can't read them easily -- and I've worked with charts for decades.

One extremely user-friendly chart site is here: AstroLabe. I recommend them if you want a simple, easy-to-read chart. I think they even give a reasonable little interpretive reading of your horoscope as part of the package. You'll need to know your birth information -- day, month, year, time and geographical place. Without all that your chart will have limited accuracy.

Or, if you want to get serious and really talk about this, upvote this post and start a conversation in the comments section sometime in the next six days from the time of publication. We'll go from there depending on what you want to know.

Questions about any of this? -- Upvote this post and talk to me in comments. It's a terrific way to build value for yourself and the community ... and it will give me ideas of what to write about in future posts. Believe me there is lots to say about the way The Sun, The Moon -- and all the other elements in a horoscope, all the other components of Astrology -- work together to interpret you and your story -- and what it all means to the person you've become.

This is who I am.

About the art in our visual essays ...

Although sometimes the background pictures in our visual essays support the topic and text, they don't always. Sometimes the connection is clear. Sometimes it's symbolic and subtle. Sometimes, there's no connection at all.

The scenes depict landscapes and natural features, buildings and wildlife. They were chosen because they show something lovely or interesting ... or simply because the photo appealed to me.

Our spectacular and remarkable planet is changing at astonishing speed. Rarely are these changes for the better. Few people seem to know ... or care ... or have the will and power to do anything about this. It may not be long before the world humans have known and lived in for centuries is forever lost. We certainly won't be able to make repairs as fast as we destroyed it.

So a few years ago I began collecting pictures of the way things were ... and still are for now, a record of the beauty we have while it is still ours to love and honor.

The photos here are part of that collection, with sincere thanks to the artists who saw these moments ... and with their cameras ... preserved them. All of us at Enchanted Spirit are profoundly grateful to them for their generosity and skill ... and for the added grace, depth and dimension their art brings to ours.
