Dear Steemit friends.
The sky is full of wonders and events. As an amateur astronomer i would like to send you some highlights for the coming week.
This week: You can see Mercury this week. Do not expect to much, it is small, and close to the sun
Look a degree above the horizon. Just after sunset. A pale dot. But hey, it is a planet!
Nov 26: the Moon is at first quarter.!
Grab a pair of binoculars and look at the border of light and darkness. Thanks to shadows you will see a lot of detail. It is called 'the terminator'.
Nov 29: If you are early, you can grab Mars near Spica, one of the brightest stars of the Virgin constellation. Mars can be seen with naked eye and appears 'reddish'
Nov 30: The moon occults a star. This is very intereasting to see because it looks like the star instantly fades out.
Look at 00:27 (GMT!) for the phenomena.
Dec 1: Grab your winter jacket, because meteorological winter begins (not the astronomical one!)
PS want more? I wrote a free app together with astronomer Marc van der Sluys (who made these beautiful images and delivered the data) with astronomical events and weather. It is in Dutch, but you can search the app store for 'Mijn Hemel' . https://itunes.apple.com/nl/app/mijn-hemel/id419104939
Hope you find it useful, comments are always welcome!
