This photo was taken in an old abandoned home in Victoria, Australia. The stairs leading down went to a cellar like area below ground level. The set of stairs in front went to a couple of bedrooms off a thin hall. These stairs were close to what I would called the "kitchen quarters" and I think they would have been used by servants etc as they were very narrow unlike the other staircase in the house. I think the bedrooms above were possibly the servants staying quarters.
