There is an old tobacco farm near my father in laws house in Breathitt county Kentucky. Sadly, the old farm house was recently burnt down. There is still a barn and a few out buildings left, as well as a couple garbage pits. While searching through one of the out buildings I found this photograph mixed in with a bunch of random items on a table. The theme of the this weeks contest is interiors. I got to thinking about what that this can mean. We can think about the literal inside of a place: walls, floor, support beams, furniture, and so on. But we can also consider what was once housed inside these old structures. What remains are the hushed echos of families that once lived there. We tend to zoom out when looking at things in life. We want to see the broader picture. My entry represents the opposite approach by narrowing my perspective down to see the details of what made the place I'm looking at alive at one time. The bones of an old building can tell a story, and while the truth is often harder to tease out, we can catch a small glimpse in a silent, and forgotten photograph.
If you would like to see more photos from around the old farm I posted some to my blog: https://steemit.com/aswcontest/@mouthofthecreek/asw-conteste-6-interiors-exploring-an-abandoned-tobacco-farm
