Auction Finds - Pretty Pictures (Part 1)

in #auction8 years ago (edited)

If you think about it, the sheer quantity of art (good, bad, mediocre and sublime) humans have produced is astounding. Everyday on Steemit alone I see numerous art posts. Art, like music and writing, is a way to make sense of the world, and to cope with with the overwhelming reality of life. It is a way, that through a single image, we have hope of coming to a common understanding with at least one other person, in an instant. The sheer diversity means there is something to appeal to everyone.

At almost every general auction you will find heaps of discarded art. With some pieces you can clearly see why they were discarded, and can only be left wondering why they graced anyone's wall at any stage whatsoever! Many pieces are sadly damaged by water, damp or foxing. My favourite irritation is damage by wall paint. Take your picture off the wall while you are painting!!! Are you seriously going to leave a painting sized rectangular piece of wall unpainted?! And then there is a large array of perfectly beautiful pieces of all types, just waiting to be re-homed. (That is my job!)

Obviously at general auctions you will probably not discover much high end art, though we have found a few treasures over the years. I sell many art prints, which to me is a perfectly acceptable way of gracing your walls on a budget. I will share all the pictures I have listed over the last 3 months or so, divided into 2 posts, as it is a lot! The pictures include both originals and reproductions.

I once had a staff member who told me she hated pictures and had none on her walls. I ended up discovering she was a psychopath who had robbed me of thousands over the years. #justsaying ;)

This is one of the best High Quality posts I've read about art/artists. It doesn't surprise me about a person who doesn't like/love art. You have to be an emotional person and most criminal don't have empathy/feelings for others so they can't relate to the people they hurt/damage. It's even worse for those who hurt children.
You have a wonderful position in life > blessing so many people.

Wow, thank you so much @pitterpatter. I'm inspired to do a post about my love and the only thing I collect.....😊

You do it well but I know you have others.

Love the seashore :)

It is lovely, my favourite is the overly dramatic R Henry Roe print :)

The one with the vultures (I think) circling the wounded deer!!!!

i guess they are hungry ;)

Great collection of prints!

Thank you so much!
