Excellent mate !! Can't beat that smell of solder.
If you can't fix them let me know. My little bro has an old fashioned repair shop in Bradford, Id assume a straightforward jack replacement would be a 2 min job for him.
All I'd say with your soldering is not to allow the wire to get too hot as youre soldering the new plug on cos the heat can quickly conduct up the wire and damage the coils.

really? sweet. yeah i've got everything i need to do it. i kinda used to do a bit of work on my cb radios and stuff back in the day so i should be good to go and i've got two plugs so i can afford to mess the first one up, will report back! :) thanks for the offer mate! :)
