Lancaster is a charter city located in the Northern Los Angeles County region of the western Mojave Desert in Southern California. The city is located about 61 miles north of downtown Los Angeles near the Kern County bordering lines.
Featuring intermittent grooves that are similar to rumble strips found along highways, The Musical Road was originally designed and constructed by Honda as part of an advertising campaign. The Musical Road became the first road of its kind in the entirety of the United States of America.
Its popularity began shortly after the original stretch was launched - word quickly spread with locals and visitors alike intrigued by the concept. The grooves on the Musical Road are spaced so that a series of pitches play when a car drives over them at around 55 miles per hour. It's designed to replicate and play the 'finale of William Tell Overture' or, the theme to the Lone Ranger.
Due to noise complaints filed by local residents who lived alongside the original road, the city was forced to repave the old road and cut the music short. The city then relocated the road to a more secluded area bringing the attraction back and in full swing!
