Hi friends, today I am going to share with you about “pahela baishakh” bangla new year. I have been waiting for this day for a year. Because this is biggest festival of our country. Let’s know about our tradition.

Mangal shovajatra

14 april is the first day of bangla calendar. All bangali people celebrate this day with lots of cultural activates. This day also known as “Nobo Borsho” which is literally “Happy New Year”. However in pahela baishakh’s most festive part is “Mangal shovajatra” which is first organized by “fine arts department, university of Dhaka. This is cultural heritage of humanity. After that this festive spared out all over the bangladesh even west bengal Kolkata. At this moment without “Mangal shovajatra” don’t fulfilled.

On 30 November 2016 the Mangal shovajatra festival was selected as an intangible cultural heritage by the Inter-governmental Committee on Safeguarding Intangible Cultural Heritage of #UNESCO. Traditional classical music and dance performances are also a big part of the celebrations. On the other hand the shopkeepers and traders open “halkhata”, this is actually fresh account books and offer sweets to their clients

Another most interesting thing is “panta ilish”(leftover rice soaked in water with fried ilish. which is special food item of pahela baishakh. Not only ilish bhaaja but also different kind of bhorta has been the food of choice to mark the festivities in Bangladesh. One think Padma ilish fish is the tastiest of all fish. If you will get opportunity to try ilish, I am sure you will recognize. I suggest you don’t miss test of ilish.

On this occasion usually girls are wearing white saree with red border and boys are wearing white pajamas and red Punjabis that is outstanding combination. We perform marking the day those are our parts of bangle culture. Now this is our national festival.

Celebration of “pahela Baishakh” started from akbar’s. First reason of introduced in bangal year for coincide with the solar agricultural cycles. During the mughjal rule, land taxes were collected according to the islimic hijri. Mughal Emperor akbar introduce the tax year to the harvest. After that pahela baishakh became tradition of bengal life.

Now The Bengali New Year is observed as a public holiday in Bangladesh. This day is marked with procession, singing and fairs. All the places singers perform “Eso eso eso he boisakh” song for welcoming the pahela baish which is written by Rabindranath Tagore…..

Eso eso eso he boisakh.
Taaposhoniswasobaaye mumurshure dao uraaye
botshorer aborjona dur hoye jaak.
Jaak puraton smriti jak bhule jawa geeti
Ashrubaspo sudurey milak.
Muchhe jaak glani ghuche jaak jora
Agnisnane suchi hok dhora.

Aano aano aano tobo proloyer saankh.
