As a voluntary program, I'm a big fan of givedirectly. I've been donating to them for a couple years. Recently, by some of their blog posts & alliances, it seems that they're starting to drift towards taxpayer funded programs. I'm less enamored by that idea.
Great way to hand the power directly to the people. Crowdfunding efforts work well too. Time will tell what effect the business building initiates that run from the internet have had on poor regions of the world.
This makes a lot of sense over the regular giving to charity that we do.
