Bitcoin Cash makes a hardfork in May

in #bcc7 years ago

The Bitcoin Cash developers have released an update version. It will be activated on May 15, 2018,according to an official announcement. The main innovation brought about by this change would be a sharp increase in block size. The "Median Time Past" (MTP) method will be applied for this purpose.

Hardfork from Bitcoin Cash

The precise timestamp for this fork is May 15 at noon, London time. New rules will come into effect as of this moment, as it leads to a forced upgrade of the consensus rules. This is the increase of the block size limit to 32 MB, which is 4 times higher than the current limit of 8 MB.

Although 32 MB are quite high, the developers think that the BCH network can handle this ability very well.

On the other hand, the new version of Bitcoin ABC 0.17.O has been published recently and is currently available for download.

The number of opcodes can be problematic

A dozen opcodes (ie machine language) whose solution OP_RETURN, are activated by the new version of the software. The OP_RETURN solution increases the data storage limit in the transaction field to 220 bytes for 80 bytes currently. This favors simplified smart contracts. The remaining opcodes have been excluded.

However, the number of new opcodes made at once, may be subject to concern. The developers commented:

Essentially overly cautious and lacking time to explore and resolve the borderline cases that needed to be resolved, the decision was made to simply disable the transaction codes around which there were doubts or even suspicions of doubt.
