On the Bench today...Beadwork

in #beadwork7 years ago

I am working on some peyote and gourd stitch needle cases, and then some feathers hopefully.

In progress now...Size 11/0 Miyuki rounds over Braintan deer, on a wooden case.

These are my favorite needle cases. I use them for my beading needles all the time, and the needles cannot get bent, and don't rust (even living on the ocean they never rusted)...

So I am hoping to get a few beaded for the shop this week.

Thank you Danass :)

3rd picture from the top really catches
my eyes! but then they all do! :-)
I really love your art work @elew

Thanks Shasta :) That is one of my favorites too. I love beading with contrast...
That design was inspired by the floods we had in Colorado a few years ago.

Is it an online shop that you make these for? As in, "can they be purchased from afar?"

Oh, yes they can :) I only have one finished in the shop right now, so hopefully more very soon. Most of my beading, leather and wampum work are in this shop https://www.etsy.com/shop/Elewmompittseh

Shared to show your great works!

Thank you Weetree <3

Wow those are just amazing !

Thank you Woody :) I do really love the way this design happened...

Simply beautiful...How long does it take to create something the size of the needle cases shown here?

This would make a lovely keepsake for a graduation or BFF!

Thanks for sharing!

Peace.

Thank you :)

The time really depends on the design and bead size. Just for the beading with 11/0 it takes 4-6 hours.

It also takes about an hour to cut the leather and stitch it on well.

I did not tan the hide, a friend up in Flathead area did the hunting and tanning, but the tanning alone takes days and alot of hard work...Using the smoked braintan means it will last for hundreds of years...and the smoke helps keep the moisture out.

Time is a funny thing ;)

Wow...Yes, leather is meant to last; thus, the well-worth extra cost over faux...

Also, thanks for sharing some of the labor-intensiveness that goes into crafting your projects.

Great work.

Btw, yes, time really is so subjective when enjoying the work we do!

Peace.
