The Real Bangkok Behind Closed Doors - Part 2.

in #beautifulsunday5 years ago (edited)

Today i took my walk along the Khlong Toey Canal of Bangkok walking along the Khlong Toey canal is like going back in time the Khlong Toey is an apparently rare site in an ever developing city such as Bangkok. It is a community made up of the lowest income earners in Bangkok city that live in worst and poorest conditions.

The Khlong Toey canal runs through the heart of Bangkok city and is used daily by many commuters traveling to and from work it's cheap fast and beats sitting in chaotic traffic jams on the Bangkok roads.

Many of the residents first relocated along the Khlong Toey canal in the early 1950's hoping to get work as Bangkok was growing as a city and a lot of development happening so a lot of cheap labor was needed.

My intentions was to follow the pathway along the canal in order to get to the real slum area of Khlong Toey but some how i believe i headed the wrong direction but still it was interesting what i was seeing the new mixed with the old.

The Khlong Toey canal also known as the Khlong Saen Saep canal runs for 72 km long the canal passes through 21 districts and is connected to more than 100 smaller canals so you can imagine if you are not heading in the right direction you could end up anywhere lost but believe me but , i could do walking along this canal for days on end there is so much culture to be seen along this canal that it's simply overwhelming.

There are many beautiful Temples to be seen along this canal also.

I did set of late for my walk today and it was getting late realizing that i was heading in the wrong direction and wasn't going to have enough time to see or find the Khlong Toey slum area , i headed of the canal path and ended up on the train line which is called Shanty Town of Bangkok , i was on this train line last week but this was the other end of the line over the other side of the road that , i didn't go into last week must come back and check this side of Shanty Town also.

I cut through another alleyway and ended up on the main road somewhere in Bangkok...lol...the streets were quiet but people coming out for there street vendor food which was smelling quite nice.

These are awesome photod my friend!

Thank you @jacuzzi i love walking around Bangkok so much to see and do 👍

My favorite, all thought a bit sketchy is the alley ways. They are sort of like the filter of a city and catch an interesting pulse.

I agree that is something else i like to do while i am here in Thailand see what i can do.

YEA! Just stay Safe! 👍

Thanks will do 👍

Even when i was quite surprise Google Maps work quite well, I ended up going running into a railway in the night when I was walking from the MRT station to Prince Palace Hotel.

Google Maps are scary you never know were they are going to led you in Bangkok but it's all fun and interesting 😆 😆

The first image was take my attention. It was good but full of dirt. I hope they will clean it well and taking care of it. Plus add COI FISH...

Unfortunately there is places even worst then you see in that photo where people are even worst of i will be seeing to check that place out next week if i can make it there.

oh my... Please.... I like to see that... Interesting....

Will do my best some times it feel awkward walking into places like that..Cheers 👍

It's nice to see another side of Bangkok that most tourist probably don't bother with

Thanks @livinguktaiwan this is true i always like to go of the tourist tracks when i am in another country a lot more interesting 👍

Looks like a good place to fish

Yep you are right about that some big huge catfish in that canal 👍

@bigsambucca Bangkok is a lovely place with good sites to visit. Thanks for sharing the pictures. This is one the beautiful places I will want to visit someday.

Using the road less traveled is the way I like to do it also! You are right though, Many tourists don't go off the beaten path, the fear of getting lost or afraid of the unknown keeps them on the main streets. I have found that many of the poorer areas have some of the nicest people, most would offer you the shirt off their back if you needed one. Many that are born into the slums are kept there by the lack of opportunity, and comfort. It is home to them.

You are very courageous and I want to thank you for the tour of the area that you gave us. It is fascinating to see as I have read about the best parts of Thailand, but like everywhere else, there is a seedier side. I look forward to your posts! The photographs were awesome and very telling!

Thank you for joining!!!

Indeed! And my God Bless You also and keep you safe in your travels. You do them a service simply b writing about them. Do you know how many people think Thailand is all beaches and street food?

Have a wonderful week ahead!
