A Beautiful and Sublime Sunday: A Special Area At Home

While I have cleared my home of most of the Christmas decorations, my Christmas Trees (in my living room, dining room, and family room) will remain up until Sunday after the Feast of Epiphany.

While the hustle and bustle of Christmas end for many people on Dec. 26, throughout Christian history Christmas lasts for twelve days – all the way until Jan. 6. This feast marking the end of Christmas is called “Epiphany.” In the Latin Rite of the Catholic Church, Epiphany celebrates the revelation that Jesus was the Son of God. It focuses primarily on this revelation to the Three Wise Men, but also in his baptism in the Jordan and at the wedding at Cana. In the Eastern rites of the Catholic Church, Theophany – as Epiphany is known in the East – commemorates the manifestation of Jesus' divinity at his Baptism in the River Jordan. While the traditional date for the feast is Jan. 6, in the United States the celebration of Epiphany is moved to the next Sunday, overlapping with the rest of the Western Church’s celebration of the Baptism of Christ.

A centerpiece in the family room is the Christmas Nativity scene. It is customary in my home to keep the Nativity scene on display until February 2nd, which is the end of the Epiphany.

Displaying the Nativity scene is a loved Christmas tradition for many Christian families, as it is with me. This nativity scene set is a treasured keepsake that I use every Christmas season.

The Nativity scene tradition originated with St. Francis of Assisi in the year 1223 on Christmas Eve. A nativity scene, also called a crib, crèche, or manger scene refers to any depiction of the birthplace of Jesus. There are a variety of nativity manger scenes to celebrate this Christian devotion. Smaller sets have only a stable with Mary, Joseph, the Baby Jesus, and various farm animals. Larger sets include shepherd boys, lambs, and the Three Wise Men. Traditionally, the figures in the nativity set are added gradually to recount the historical Christmas story. On December 24th the Baby Jesus is placed in the manger, and the following days the shepherds are added. On January 6th, Three Kings Day, the magi are also added near the manger scene.

Only friends close to me and welcome to the upstairs family room of my home are able to view this Nativity scene. Today, I share it with you, my steemit family!

Very Beautiful post, Sadie! ❣

Your closing tag makes me think of this:

Philippians 4:8 (KJV)
8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

Thanks for sharing that passage here, @underground! Take care 🥰🌺🤙

Jesus is always the, "Reason for the Season." He is what the true spirit of what Christmas is about. I always notice manger scenes in my neighborhood and happy to see it celebrated.

Thank you for sharing such a beautiful part of your life and faith with us my stacking sister. Jesus truly is the reason we are all blessed as we are and it should be shown and emphasized. Our Nativity is one that was purchesed by my grandmother from Finger Hut many years ago it is traditionally placed out under our tree and backlite with Christmas lights. A fantastic reminder of as my pirate sister @kerrislravenhill dais "the reason for the season" and the start of Jesus' journey. Thanks for sharing!!

I am so glad that you appreciate this article and my sharing.
This set was built up slowly. The one angle was from the Nativity set that I grew up with. All the rest, I had gotten through the years. It is a wonderful Christian tradition, and I always look forward to putting this up more so than the Christmas Trees. Next year perhaps I will show an Advent Wreath!
Have a wonderful week ahead, and take care, my stacking brother, @dwingsworld! 🥰🌺🤙 !tip

That is a nice one, when we were kids we used to move the figures around as a joke, O how I miss those days!👍

I love my childhood days spent with my two brothers and my parents, and the holidays (more so than regular days) make me miss them and days past with family.
Thanks for stopping by, my friend @tbnfl4sun! Have a wonderful week ahead, and take care 🥰🌺🤙 !tip

Yes we always keep our Christmas tree up to Jan 6th the Epiphany. Plus it's just too quick to take the tree down just after Christmas ....That just feels so wrong...
I didn't know that the end of Epiphany was February 2nd.....

They go by Sundays, I think. Jan 5 is the Epiphany, Jan 12 is the Baptism, and Feb 2 is the Presentation. It celebrates three occasions according to Christian belief: the presentation of the child Jesus; Jesus' first entry into the temple; and it celebrates the Virgin Mary's purification (mainly in Catholic churches). And that is when in our home completes the manifestation (which is the Epiphany), and that is when I take down the Nativity set. I think it is just that I got so used to my parents' traditions which I have followed.
Have a lovely week, @silvertop, and take care 🥰🌺🤙 !tip

I guess I had forgotten some of the traditions ....Yes that’s how my parents raised me too, I was baptized and raised Catholic.

My tree is still up cause putting everything away is such a chore! 🤣🤣

We just got a nativity 2 years ago, but it is Australian themed. So Mary, Joseph and Jesus are koalas, the shepherds are kookaburras, the madgi are a kangaroo, wombat and some other animal. Instead of sheep and camels there are echidnas and emus. I love it.

And I love your display and thoughtful family traditions as well!

Don't you love just traditions! Do you and your hubby have a tradition that came about as a result of your love story?
Have a beautiful week ahead, and take care, my lovely sis @dfinney! Take care 🥰🌺🤙 !tip
